It spends too much time jumping from reference to reference to indulge the academic/pop cultural remix aesthetic, but when it eventually gets around to the point, it's pretty sensible stuff. Nothing revolutionary, and nothing justifying six months of zero output, but Contra's audience needs to hear from someone they like that stewing in ressentiment alone won't bring them justice or happiness. A purely critical politics with no positive vision will never cross from fantasy to reality. And the momentary gratification of fantastical thinking is no foundation for a fulfilling life.

They pick an extremely broad topic then jump around from philosophy, to literature, to social media, and pop culture to random movies, to art, to language etc etc. Zoomers love it becasue they have short attention spans Contra name dropped Paradise Lost when talking about the cartoon but didn't even elaborate why. That bothered me but the average zoomer will look past it. As someone who likes and has studied world literature I don't understand this at all, it's all surface shit.

I watched the new video, and I admit that it's definitely better than the past few he has put out since early 2019-2021. While it's pretty much indisputable that his content used to be a lot more substantive and engaging in 2016/7 pre-transition— actually, somewhat coherent arguments condensed into 8-10 minutes instead of a glorified makeup tutorial a la Jeffree Star (the "Men" video from 2019 was the worst offender; I felt like I was watching a second-rate RuPaul's Drag Race audition tape with the incessant "hey gorge" and lobotomy-inducing vocal fry)— I think this one actually holds up when you look past the ostentatious set design, gratuitous costume changes, and flamboyant styling. I can't really say the same for his other more recent videos, which were totally solipsistic. I find CP's content grating and self-aggrandizing, but it's more watchable than PT, which seems uncanny and farcical.

Was surprised with the Dworkin mention. Surely that's not doing him any favors on trans twitter.

Was it worth a seven-month wait? No. Do any of his Patreon paypigs seem to care? I think we already know the answer.

I think the point about how a lot of leftist politics stemming from envy and resentment is definitely thought-provoking. Considering how most of the antifa anarkiddie, pronouns in bio, catgirl picrew Twitter icon types can't stand CP for being a decadent bourgeoisie liberal, the people who should actually take that lesson to heart probably won't watch the video.

I can't remember what the average age of his audience is. If it's mostly zoomers who haven't been to college or have spent an entire year of high school in brain-dissolving Zoom class, then I guess I can understand his appeal, seeing as most people that age haven't engaged with serious scholarship or academic work. Not that CP actually does any serious scholarship, but it sounds like he has been around academics long enough to adopt their posture and presentation. Gratuitously sprinkle in some ten-dollar words and you're basically a genius to 15-year-olds who spend their days keyboard smashing and spamming K-pop fancams in people's replies.
