Universities talk. I don't think this aspect of academia is appreciated enough, but administrators and professors are constantly going around the country to conferences and seminars and shit like that. Nobody travels as much as the PHDs I know. Half the job is having to sit through boring ass lectures by random people in far flung places on a regular basis. If you get "known" by that circle you're going to have a hard time. All it takes is for the person in admissions to ask why she left TTU for her to be blacklisted. And they will ask.

There's a good chance she ends up at some no name community college or something.
