I'm not really sure how effective 'vocal exercises' would be for something like this. It's just what it is. Even professional singers are always using their real voice.

Using a fake voice and consciously changing to a pitch that isn't yours is so much extra strain. If you're doing that 4-10 hours a day, 4-7 days a week, your throat is probably experiencing the vocal equivalent of a carpet bomb.

But the cost of RTA'ing your own sensory health to be cutesy for viewers isn't my coin to spend.

wouldn't be surprised if they start talking normally during member streams, would make it more "personal" as well, although some probably prefer it simply to make easier to stay "in character" like matsuri put it (take that as you will). over time most of them will probably accept they don't need to use it every time everywhere.

The best part of watching smaller VTubers is that the chat moves slow enough that the streamer can properly interact with them, respond to a good percentage of non-SC messages, and even remember the regulars' names. That's also the worst part of watching smaller VTubers -- if they're too meek to handle the chat members that are out of line (including the ones that make it all about themselves).

I mean there is also a small line to cross from simp to entitled autist. Most of the girls wouldnt want to upset a whale just because he is being slightly autistic. In this case though, its warranted.

I love her voice so much. Still think she has one of the best voices in Hololive in second to Suisei.

Suisei definitely shows her experience, she has that extra emotional quality to her singing. Something IRyS has lacked in her covers so far, though I expect she will improve now she's with Hololive.

Marine's original "Unison" has really tickled the special part of my brain and I've been listening to it non-stop all day, I miss back when I used to use "itunes" only for the fact it tracked how many times I'd played a song, because I wonder if "Unison" will beat my longest record of listening to the same song 268 times in a row, before I finally went back to other stuff.

I feel the same with Irys. She sounds a bit too generic for me I feel like she needs to let loose a bit and go all out.

As an aside, deafness/tinnitus is probably just as much a risk in the industry, especially the more musically-oriented talents, and it's a surprisingly common trait in the real Japanese music industry as well. The human body isn't really well-equipped for the intense life on the industry factory line. It's not by some weird force of God that V-Tubers just so happen to develop similar health issues.

Only fries your chords if you manipulate your voice. I doubt most streamers have to deal with this issue when its just using their normal voice. Snuffy was pretty smart to quit with the generic kawaii uwu voice she had. Also her normal voice is way better.

On the subject of vocal coaching, you'd be surprised how much it can help things. Corey Taylor (slipknot/stone sour) has been doing cookie monster vocals almost as long as I've been alive. In the beginning, he was just doing it without a fuck to give and fucked his vocal chords up, requiring surgery. Nowadays he's gone through a training arc, and can still harbgarble 200+ days a year with no ill effects.

How this ties back to vtubers: if a dude can sandpaper his voice for a living for over 20 years, and still do it, then it's not a stretch to believe that a cutesy streamer can continue to stream if they make the recommended changes.
