That’s what actually pissed me off about Fiona’s Redditing. It shook my belief in her parents.
I'll cut the parents a tiny bit of slack. I'm not a parent, let alone to a full-ass autistic adult who needed to be hospitalized/put in treatment, but I can imagine this being a stressful and upsetting situation. I can also imagine they were/are unaware of all the specifics that got her to this place. (And let's be honest, if your young-adult daughter is in crisis, your first duty is to get her help, not worry about the specifics of internet fuckery that was involved or to care about the assholes from the internet almost certainly calling your house.)
They clearly miscalculated and took their eye off the ball long enough for her to get her phone. It happens. Teenagers and even younger kids find ways to access stuff behind their parents back all the time. It’s part of being a kid. I did it. I'm sure you did too.
The important thing, to me, is that as soon as they realized what was happening, they took the phone away and got her a flip phone. For all the parents of the past who have threatened to take away a cow's internet, so far, it looks like these parents actually did it.
And not for nothing, but getting someone legally committed or admitted, as their parent, when they are over 18, is really difficult. Usually, the person has to show themselves to be a threat to themselves or others, and maybe Fiona was (I don’t know or really care about the specifics), but being autistic still doesn't give them power of attorney and I'm willing to bet they had to go through a lot of red tape just to get her help to begin with.
Fiona has certainly zapped some of my goodwill now that we know she did the AMA. Yeah, she’s a retard, but it's still frustrating to see. The
only thing that separates Fiona from the other cows we dunk on the regular, at least as far as I can assess, is that she appears to have parents who care and are invested and a friend (Grant) who wants what is best for her. That in and of itself is unique and uncommon. It doesn’t make Fiona any less of a cow, but it does give her a fighting chance to stay out of this shit once and for all and moo in obscurity off the pages of Reddit and KF.
Why would you have formed any particular opinion about the parents of someone we know practically nothing about?
I swear some of you guys invented a whole Fiona canonical universe based on a handful of pictures and one secondhand conversation with her friend.
