I have trouble believing we are being limited by the number of airplanes. How would this help in any way?

The only thing I could guess is all the close by places are full so they need to haul them farther which keeps the planes in the air longer requiring more planes. On the other hand, the internet says there are 222 C-17A in the USAF fleet... so I can't really imagine why they'd need more.

Edit: As I think about it, the correct thing to do would be to use the Civilian carriers to haul the refugees from friendly non-warzone staging areas out to places that can deal with them and let the Military transports do the short hops into the country. Of course this is why I'm not in charge.

They can try, it'd be poison to though. Mandates poll terribly, and even the vaccine is polling badly at this point. If Anything, Trump is making a bigger risk still defending them than condemning them.

From what I understand, it's a dinosaur airframe- they don't make them anymore, so if you lose one, it's gone for good. And that 222 needs to be spread out across every place on Earth the USAF runs operations.

The US military is apparently incapable of moving thousands of people halfway around the world on short notice according the the US SecDef. The smart people in DC must have realized it's due to a lack of planes, something the US military must not have very many of.
