Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

It's entirely possible the Taliban are holding back, and these attacks are being carried out by the local branch of ISIS, who the Taliban is also at war with.
ISIS, Taliban, Hamas, AQ, whoever, are the Bloods and Crips as far as the West is concerned. Their conflicts with each other do not make one or the other an ally.

Honestly, if it already wasn't the worst foreign policy disaster in US history, the back to back suicide bombings just cemented it.

Thousands of US citizens are now trapped in a hostile state and are being abandoned to fend for themselves. Biden has no viable option to go in anymore without igniting a full scale war with the Neo Taliban. All of this was for a glorified 9/11 photo op to push him politically.

History will not remember this kindly. It's the worst parts of the Jimmy Carter administration but on speed.

Disgraceful

All of this in service of a goddamn photo op. The deluded, disconnected hubris of it all is astonishing.
The worst part is, it could have worked if there'd been a minimum of planning and forethought. Renegotiate with the Taliban, hold onto Bagram, get Tajikistan (read: Russia) onboard- it's not like there weren't options here. Instead, they went with "unilaterally treaty break, abandon your strongest defensive position in the dead of night, assume surprised Pikachu face when the Taliban bog-stomps the notoriously corrupt and ineffective Afghan army."

But why would one try to stop the other? Seems like they're sword and shield to me.
The Taliban have a vested interest in being perceived as the legitimate power in Afghanistan and have been comparatively holding back compared to ISIS. They want the US to GTFO from the airport ASAP along with the rest of NATO so they can declare victory and then go about enacting reprisals for collaborators and the like. Bombing the airport and creating mass casualties that encourage Biden to resume the war if only for the sake of better PR is not in their interest.
ISIS, on the other hand, just wants the blood of infidels to flow through the streets, even if it hurts their interests long-term.
