Most soviet citizens much like the chinese now didnt trust the state, their motto was "the state pretends to pay us and we pretend we work", the chinese also have a word for that but I forgot it. They also have one that's basically "good enough" but actually means "just do the bare minimum of work" which is why most chinese companies sell shoddy shit
But most yanks still believe in the government, they might not believe in the president or congress but they still believe in the government itself and their institutions, even tho all of those are staffed by unelected psychos who got there thru a spiderweb of nepotism and political favors. Then theres the private institutions who are the embodiment of "fuck you got mine" yet normies still listen to them
