It's a pretty common tactic for us to let ruthless regimes handle insurgent groups among the locals but I have no idea why the fuck they think the Taliban could or would do it. Remember that Saddam was actually very useful for us for a while because he was extremely efficient at turning any potential rebel or insurgent groups to ash before they could become problematic.
But that was Saddam with the Iraqi military. The Taliban have no interest in playing the same type of national role, they have no established infrastructure, and a lot of the party loyalty with Saddam's goons was from people who wanted to solidify their own power so there was more greed as a motivation.
As long as ISIS don't fuck around with them too much I don't see the Taliban actively LARPing as CS:GO players any time soon
