Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

But that was Saddam with the Iraqi military. The Taliban have no interest in playing the same type of national role, they have no established infrastructure, and a lot of the party loyalty with Saddam's goons was from people who wanted to solidify their own power so there was more greed as a motivation.
As long as ISIS don't fuck around with them too much I don't see the Taliban actively LARPing as CS:GO players any time soon

You're overthinking this. A lot of the Taliban are just poor tribal fighters who follow the head of their tribe as common in the Middle East. Most are fighting for their tribe and a check, and are not as idealogical pure as people think. I can almost gurantee some poor Taliban grunt was slipped a few hundred/thousand dollars to let slip through ISIS-K fighters/munitions through the checkpoints. ISIS in general gained power by first allying with the smugglers back in the early Iraq days. Being able to move in fighters and explosives is almost the same as moving in clothing/electronics duty-free to a non-discerning soldier. According to random google articles, the average Taliban fighter makes 100-300 USD a month. Paying him double or triple his salary to let one truck/car through is worth it to ISIS-K.

Syria had the same problem from 2011-2014 of poor sunni conscripts being forced to man checkpoints. They took out their displeasure by looking the other way from smugglers and other nefarious individuals for a paycheck. If you're a soldier who makes $50-100 a month and some guy wants to pay you $500 to let ONE truck/car through a checkpoint and doesn't intend to kill you, would you take it? Syria suffered a lot of high profile suicide bombings, attacks in very "secure locations" at the time. This doesn't even take into account the idealogical Taliban conscripts watching checkpoints who do hate America and especially Afghani collaborators, the tribal taliban member might just let in the fighters for free.

I see their fucking shameless evil, the way Some People still cringe and whine that it's not that bad and not their fault. It's still the other guys! You want to know how people like Hitler and Stalin got into power, well here you are. They're no different to me than the jews who sold out their own to save their own worthless skin or the chinks that proudly rat out their friends and family for social points.
