I'm not Catholic, but I felt really bad when the Pope cracked down on Latin mass recently. But it's not a unique problem to the Catholic Church; the same split has happened in every Protestant line. "Fundamentalist" is considered a dirty word, but it became relevant 100 years ago when the Baptists could see what the modernists were trying to do to the faith and preemptively said there were fundamentals that could NOT be negotiated, such as Jesus ACTUALLY performing miracles and rejecting the idea that it's just all metaphorical. Today, everything the Baptists predicted has come true, and it's the fundamentalist/trad churches that are holding firm and doing alright, even if they're only sluggishly growing, they're still stronger than the slush of Jesuits/Episcopalian/unitarian numpties who want that Moral Therapeutic Communism.
