it really depends. Out of pocket is very expensive for good insurance. Cheap insurance is dog shit. If you have a good job it'll include good insurance. Then it depends where you live for quality doctors. The best doctors always live in rich white areas.
Contrary to popular belief, there is free government health care for deadbeats. It's good for basic stuff but you're fucked if you need something complex.

SWIM has a good job with good insurance. It still takes several months to see a specialist. While you're waiting to see said specialist your HMO may or may not order tests to expedite the process. Based on what I've observed most medical aliments that aren't critical (like Jim's illness) get swept under the rug and take years to resolve. This would explain why Jim is still claiming he's inflicted, without a resolution.
