I remember reading somewhere that there were some shady shit pulled by Regan to get into office. There were hostages that Regan did some back room deal that if they would hold them until the vote was held (making Carter look bad), he'd go along with their OPEC demands? Then there was the fact that Regan was an actor and knew how to play to audiences, so he 'played' well to a majority of people who were not used to politicians also being actual actors. But, the OPEC deals played a roll in getting the US out of stagflation and ended the even/odd days of sitting in lines to buy gas. (You could only buy gas on even days if your plate ended in an even number and on odd days if your plate ended in an odd number).

Some believe we're sliding back into stagflation now. Stagflation is worse than inflation and not sure if we have the tools to get out of it like Regan had.
