What that shower scene even necessary? This has turned into a hilariously trashy telenovela for all the wrong reasons.

Satoko's ass is bigger than her torso, holy fuck.

And they reused Rika's Watanagashi dance AGAIN. Isn't that the fifth time? Even the makers of Sailor Moon would be telling Passione to knock it off with the reused footage.

Also I was only half right when I predicted that they'd reuse that comical shot of Ooishi breaking his spine to shoot Mion, because I said that they'd use it in the "next episode". It was actually two episodes later that they reused it, I didn't think that they'd pad this arc out that much. Five episodes for Tatarigoroshi spliced with the CPS arc of Minagoroshi AGAIN but with more glowing red eye Satokos this time.

Yeah, that was such a lovely shot of loli buttcrack in the shower when it was previously missing in Gou. Thanks, Ryukishi, you fuck. He has quite the affinity for Satoko in particular, apparently. She actually has the only nude sprite in the series in the original Japanese sound novel that was censored for international release (and probably also in subsequent re-releases in Japan).

I just realized that the head-smashing is actually censored.

1630603377349.png

Also fucking lol they changed the face despite it being recycled footage from last week.

1630603571087.png

So how come we didn't get this Rika inner monologue back in Gou? Did Ryukishi realize “Otoh, we need to pad out this episode of the answer arc to answer for the kick moment of insanity back in Gou! Ehhhh, Rika didn't have a spiel to herself about the happiness she got from saving Satoko? What the fuck, man, do it here as a switch of narrative!” or something?

1630603619697.png

Hey, Hanyuu, you dumb bitch, why weren't you keeping an eye on Satoko this whole time? You used to leave Rika's side just to follow people around. How come you can't use your godlike powers to check in on Satoko once in a while? I forget, she did kinda explain why she can't follow Rika into the other worlds, right? I know her powers were practically draining to the point of making her exactly into a useless god, but I honestly don't believe her.

1630603632205.png

So how come Satoko targeted Keiichi, again? Did she really know ahead of time to go after Keiichi and drag him along into this, or did Ooishi tell her he was the leader? 'Cause I'm assuming it was Ooishi since he was parked out in front of Satoko's house this whole time.

1630603639630.png

And it's just... why? What was the plan here, Ooishi? Satoko?

1630603645846.png

So wait, did Ooishi not expect this? So why were you outside of the house, Ooishi?

1630603845917.png

THEY DIDN'T PUT IN THE BLOODIED FOOTPRINTS OUT IN THE OPEN IN GOU HOLY SHIT

Why is this director so fucking incompetent?! Why is Ryukishi such a hack?!

1630603873086.png

1630603883694.png

HOW DID KEIICHI NOT FEEL OR SMELL THE BLOOD FROM THERE HOLY FUCKING SHIT
1630603927341.png

I'M SERIOUS, HE CAN'T FEEL THAT???

1630603944203.png

HOW IN THE HELL

1630603953069.png

So wait a goddamn minute, it was Satoko who beat him over the head (think people correctly guessed this but it's been like a year), but what was with Teppei in Gou? Did Keiichi suddenly suffer from Hinamizawa Syndrome when he got beat over the head? How the fuck, you can't just change the rules like that, Ryukishi! Are you seriously suggesting that head trauma will kick Hinamizawa Syndrome into overdrive and make people start hallucinating?

1630604054368.png

1630604067315.png

Also no, that's not how it went in Gou! Keiichi didn't get a reaction shot of the bloodied room in the light before he got hit in the head.

1630604105799.png

See? That's a dopey expression he has on his face, that's not one of shock.

1630604156995.png

1630604169989.png

YOU CAN'T JUST CHANGE KEIICHI'S POSITION LIKE THAT

1630604190339.png

See?! He even sees Teppei's dead body, so there is no fucking way there was EVER a hallucinatory reaction!

So everyone was correct that the scene with Keiichi and Teppei didn't happen, but apparently it wasn't even a real hallucination! That's even worse!

1630604226206.png

1630604239383.png

So wait, did Satoko actually give Ooishi the plan as to what was going on, and that was why he was parked outside of her house? How come we didn't see her talk to Ooishi about this? How come we never got a shot of Ooishi parking outside of the house before the sun went down? There's been way too many goddamn plot conveniences for Satoko's plan to go this smoothly, are we sure Featherine hasn't been interfering?

1630604303647.png

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY

Quick side-note, while checking the episode to make absolutely sure what was going on, this shot happened:
1630604323927.png

higurashi01.png

FUCKING HACKS, TRYING TO DIVERT THE NARRATIVE

AND HOLY SHIT THEY ACTUALLY REUSED FOOTAGE FROM GOU FOR SATOKO'S BEATING OF TEPPEI

1630604457289.png

And there is no fucking way Keiichi survived this, dead serious here.

1630604537593.png

1630604548595.png

Sure, that looks like how someone would take another person back to their own house.

1630604582794.png

ROFL oh NOW you're suddenly questioning things like a true detective!

1630604598975.png

FUCKING HACKS, IT EITHER HAPPENED OR IT DIDN'T.

1630604621936.png

She can't even get the lying narrative right, Keiichi said goddamn nothing in the “hallucinatory” scene in Gou. Did you seriously not expect people to go back and fact check for this shit, Ryukishi?

1630604654477.png

This isn't even a clever way to explain why Ooishi had Satoshi's bat. Also no one asked when it happened, but how did Ooishi end up picking the bat back up to beat in Rika's skull when he literally tossed it into the shadows and never moved back over there?

1630604678911.png

1630604688999.png

Also Rena was originally saying this when Rika's head was being smashed in, but as soon as Ooishi stopped when he saw her (and I guess Rika was then dead), oh that was when Rena was screaming at her to not get closer?

What a crock of shit.
higurashi02.png

Oh, God-Entertaining chapter, then? I'm more than happy to express relief I was wrong about my prediction arc names, but judging from the arc name here, I take it is this where we're going to see Featherine's reactions to the other worlds Rika experienced in Nekodamashi, therefore still making it recycled footage and no real answers to be had?

We're most likely going to get a third season at this rate, Jesus Christ...

I think it's super clear here that these are not different worlds from Gou. Just stop lying to yourself, and also stop trying to be cute in your episode synopses for Sotsu. I'm sure you're frustrated with this, too, but making jokey captions for screencaps is unprofessional. Other fan wikis don't do this (far as I can tell), they just tell and show it like it is.

I've been taking this series as Featherine's shitty fanfic this whole time tbqh.
So if it's really like that and it's totally non-canon, then okay, but at the same time, I don't know how I feel about making canonical meta jokes about fan fiction. I know there have been creators out there who made their own fan fictions of their characters for the lulz, but it's still weird.

I don't think it'll save the series for me if that's the actual explanation, though.

Was Ryukishi ever even good
Let me remind you that Higurashi's final (main) chapter introduced a new tier of villain so that its main villain would look less responsible for trying to genocide an entire village, while also never bothering to address the new actual villain because I guess it was out of the story's scope.

Thought I forgot to bring up something about Matsuribayashi. But then again, I forget that "Tokyo" was the mastermind behind it all simply because the person running "Tokyo" (I keep thinking her name's Nina for some reason when I know that's wrong) has no character to her other than "Lol I lied".

So it's interesting there's no mention of "Tokyo" to be had here, if only because the show doesn't want to remember Takano.

Oh yeah I forgot about Nomura. I think they give some more backstory with Tokyo in the manga but yeah. Iirc it was all a plot to turn the syndrome into a bioweapon instead of pursuing nukes? But yeah it wasn't handled well and in the anime Nomura shows up once. I don't recall if the VN is as bad as the anime with Tokyo.

Nomura and Tokyo come up in episode 24 of Gou, though obviously it doesn't go into great depth on either of them.
It's hard to say what Nomura's actual role within Tokyo was, though. We know Tokyo doesn't have a clear leader, and is instead broken up into factions that vie for power, but it's hard to say if Nomura is just under the employ of some of its members or if she's trying to manipulate them all against each other for her own benefit. All we really know about it is that she was part of a scheme to destroy the influence of the remnants of the Koizumi faction and that Tomitake called upon other factions to bring in the Banken and destroy the plot.
As for stuff that's really skipped over, I'd first look at the truth behind the mysterious murders and disappearances. If you only watch the new show, you'd never know that Satoko pushed her own parents off a cliff, Satoshi killing his aunt, or Takano killing Rika's parents. I guess that none of that stuff matters now.

Researching potential military applications was one of the stated purposes of the whole research project, and led to the development of H170/H173, but in reality nobody really cared about it, and it was only Koizumi's massive influence within Tokyo that allowed Takano's research into the Hinamizawa Syndrome to happen. After his passing, its members immediately started defunding the Irie Institute and mocking Hifumi's brain parasite theories, which led to them ordering the destruction of all samples of H173 and the destruction of all evidence it ever existed (as it was just a huge potential scandal), and shifted the focus of the Institute entirely towards the cure and the complete eradication of the syndrome in three years, upon which the research would be buried completely.
Nomura and her superiors just saw it as a great opportunity to cause a huge disaster that the Koizumi faction would take the blame for, thus shifting the balance of power within Tokyo in their favour.

[I can't quote your recap post or @ you for some reason]
I look forward to your recaps more than the actual show. Good job, sir.

Who'd have thought that the mysterious mystery mastermind would overlook basic facts this hard? Keiichi not seeing or smelling those gallons of blood is one hell of an oversight. Are we sure he didn't have a tard wrangler back in 2005 or so?

Who's looking forward to Rika getting tortured while Featherine does the same thing she always does-- laugh-- for the next 4 weeks? And then season 3, where the final battle between Rika and Satoko takes 12 episodes for some reason?

He's bragging about being a fucking pervert now.
>now
That conversation is almost taken straight from the original, with the deviation being another obvious hint that Satoko was looping.
It's not even close to the worst one, either:

If anything, Gou/Sotsu severely toned down the sex jokes and meme pedo stuff.
Why couldn't they have just done a remake like Fruits Basket or Shaman King?
I'm pretty sure that was the initial pitch made to Ryukishi, but he wanted to provide an experience that would be fresh to both new and old viewers, and came up with a hybrid remake/sequel that ending up being the worst of both worlds.
Plus, I doubt that he would ever go with a straight remake, even if we could really use something that was less atrocious than what DEEN made, since Ryukishi already had regrets over his work before he even finished writing it.
Graduating Question.jpg
Probably the most notable aspect is how he handled Takano and Teppei, since he apparently opposes the idea of making villains for the heroes to go up against, even when he wrote them to be completely despicable and devoid of any depth, and their punishment is only being sent to jail (while the entire rest of the village gets murdered, while Teppei probably gets off easy due to how this would affect the case). This is why Takano now gives up before she sets her plan in motion (please don't ask about that time she killed Rika's parents), and Teppei is replaced by an alien doppelganger whose personality is almost diametrically opposed to the original.
I can entirely believe that Ryukishi intends to end this story by giving everyone a happy ending while they all just pretend that nothing bad ever happened. Of course, in the process, he will just completely ignore that in order to reach that one happy world, Satoko created scores of worlds that all ended in abject misery, leaving the survivors to just deal with their hell.
Even the least terrible worlds amongst those still featured Satoko's completely sudden suicide, leaving the club members horrified and probably blaming themselves for it, especially since everyone but Keiichi is well aware of Satoko's backstory. But y'know, obviously Satoko was right all along, and only the final world matters. Why would anyone even give a shit about all the people in the other worlds? They're just shitters, anyway.

Okay, I just found out Akasaka has a character song and it is awesome:
