I expect its people who haven't got a clue what they are talking about. Byuu may be a cow but bsnes/higan/ares are very well made
Yeah, but there was no SNES emulator in there, and this leak is only a few years old at most. BSNES was around since 2004.
That's why I think @Wayne Beckett is probably actually Byuu himself. Who else would have that stuff? This guy, however much of a freak he is, had pretty good opsec, so I seriously doubt anyone would have had access to these pictures but he himself. All the dox we have of him is from people related to him in some way, not from himself.
Agreed. There has been a lot of baseless speculation recently that has been repeated enough that it's at risk of becoming "fact," and "Nintendo was gonna sue Byuu for stolen code/IP" is one of those.
He's done other emulator stuff after BSNES.... I would imagine Nintendo code leaks are like a wet dream for emulator writers regardless of how long / how much reverse engineering he'd done without 'em.

My understanding is that it’s suspected to be microcode or perhaps something like VHDL for one or more of the expansion chips (like the FX chip). Getting these chips working on the emulator is necessary for certain games that were notoriously difficult to emulate accurately. Also most of these chips are notorious for their difficulty to reverse engineer, thus having stolen code for them would offer a lot for getting them working.
Was any of that actually leaked though?
