Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

Nah, I don't see how that would work. They're not competing to win over the same audience so there's no incentive for them to clash with each other (unlike Sargon vs. Metokur). Sargon's also settled into a comfortable niche at the moment with his Lotus Eaters podcast, which he wouldn't want to risk by starting Internet slapfights with other content creators.
Also, Jim wouldn't want to go into a debate against Sargon. He's been in a hug box for so long, he can't handle a dissenting opinion. And in any video with Sargon, that would bring comments that go against Jim's views.

I think the only way a debate could happen is if someone invites Jim on a live stream, it starts out pleasant, and then occasionally the guy politely disagrees with Jim on topics Jim is "passionate" about. By the end of the hour, Jim would probably be raving.

I realised after posting my comment that Jim and Sargon have already interacted before. Sargon made a video making fun of journalists criticising Cuphead for being too hard which included a segment from one of Jim's skits and just laughs him off.

To which Jim responded with his usual "I didn't even watch the video! I don't care about people making fun of me, honest!" routine whenever he's triggered as fuck.

Seems about as far as the two would be willing to acknowledge each other. I guess you already got what you wanted, @cow-wannabe?

For sake of comparison to Jim's sour-faced drivel:
On top of just generally being much more pleasant to listen to (despite being an Aussie cunt) Gmanlives states in his review he didn't have a single crash in his entire run, while ya boi Guru Larry dropped into the comments of Jim's video to share similar sentiments, (and appeal to Jim's consoomer side):

This begs the question: Is Jim the unluckiest man alive, or is he completely full of shit and exaggerating a game's issues so he has an excuse to cry more?

Given that he actually re-uses footage of the same glitches at different stages in his opening montage, I put it to you, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, that he is in fact full of shit.
Got this day on launch, my gaming PC is from 2015. I've not had a single fucking issue playing it and it's actually really fun if you can get two other friends with you. The game is literally Left 4 Xenomorph.

Jim couching Commentocracy as "a fat guy doing a silly voice in an aristocrat costume" is such a cop-out.

When people agree with him, he's doing hard-hitting satire with an important message and speaking truth to power, but the moment he gets pushback, he's just a silly guy being silly about silly things on the silly internet.

Imagine unironically demonstrating a hint of sincerity in 2021, you unsophisticated half-wit!

I mean, I believe you, but I just don't understand why. What's the goal?
Shitting on buggy games is cool currently, and he assumed if he said it was bad everyone in the comments would accept or change their opinion to agree with him.

It's like CP2077. People still like to shit on that because funny to mention game buggy, but when you go and play it now... Well it's really not that bad. Like Skyrim with the unofficial community patch is currently more buggy in my experience. But internet points for hating on game for bugs.

Jim also assumes everyone else will also lose their shit at a single bug or wants to hate the AAA licensed game. Thing is, in current year, licensed games being good is scene as really profitable. We're kinda past the days of licensed games mostly being awful, but I also don't think Jim plays video games off camera. Which isn't uncommon for YouTubers and streamers BTW, but since he only plays games because he has to for work he assumes no one else plays games.

Not to mention, playing a game for work sucks. My career path was a tester and now a designer and consultant who acts as a third party who helps find out how to make a vague idea holding a game up into a fleshed out design document so things stay on schedule. I've had and still have to play video games for my job. I also do it for fun.

I never hated video games more than when I had to play one game I don't like in a loop for 40 hours a week for work. Doing something you currently don't want to for work sucks. Even if it's something normally fun. I've even played some of those games years later to see if the bugs ever got patched and ended up liking them outside the context of work.

Jim hates his job. He hates everything to do with his job. He hates and finds reasons to hate everything he plays because he has to play it for his job. And he wants his viewers to hate video games too. Just like he does. And he'll lie to make it happen.

AKA Schrodinger's Shitposter.

So, apparently Tripwire, developer of the Killing Floor games, has a president that has openly supported the Texas abortion ban. Future Jimquisition?
If I'm not mistaken he has praised tripwire in the past right? But ooooh boy there will be salt mines for that video, I cannot wait for it!

It makes me wonder if Tripwire might become his new goto punching bag since Ubisoft is stale.

Oh yeah, there was a row about Steam refunds lately.
Yeah, some idiot made a 1 hour walking sim and got mad that people returned it after beating it, despite the fact that he charged $8.99 for the thing and it was mostly a unity asset flip.
Though this video exists so Jim can bitch about why we need universal basic income, because of people would be less likely to refund things if they didn’t have to work hard for their money or some shit.
At this point, his idiocy and the people in the comment section agreeing with him is getting more and more tiring to endure.

This... this... even the editor took the piss this time Jim went on for too long with his dumb tangent. Anyhow, there is one quote I agree with on Jim here regarding game length. "A good game is a good game, and a good game is as long as it needs to be." I will give him this point. There is a bit of over fixation on game length among consumers, which frankly is why many franchises have gone to piss with worthless filler content. AAA games should be the peak of what gaming can be when price is no object, but they have long been the pits because games need to be ever longer and have ever more content. I know plenty of people who refuse to this day to buy Doom (2016) and Eternal because they are just too shoot.

That said, a 90 minute game needs to be really damn good to make me want to buy it for even $10.

This whole situation smacks of some shitty, Digital Homicide-tier game dev trying to garner attention & Jim fell for it hook line and sinker. If you're developing games, you should know Steam's returns policy and you should know that if your game clocks in at literally half the required time window for a refund, people are going to exploit it. Even more so when you can purchase games that will entertain for far longer for less money than this. Hell I think I picked up Fallout 3 on Steam during a sale one time for £3.74.

My comparison was that two years ago I bought both portal 1 and portal 2 in a bundle for $1.99

I beat portal 1 in 45 minutes because I’ve played that game many a time over the years and I actually joked about returning it to a friend before deciding not that because I know I’ll probably play it again eventually.
if your game isn’t at least as replayable as portal it either shouldn’t be $9, or it shouldn’t be 1 hour long

He threw Scott Cawthon, the fnaf developer, under the bus for just donating to some Republicans. It is only a matter of time before he throws them under as well.

@LiquidKid -Can't quote your post directly for some reason:

Even in this case, Portal 1 is designed to be played for longer than 2 hours. This guy made a game, made it an hour long, knew it was an hour long, put it onto Steam which is known for its 2 hour maximum playtime cutoff for refunds, and then complained about people refunding his game that he made to be 1 hour shorter than the maximum playtime required for a refund!

You have to be deliberately fishing for controversy by doing such a thing or you've got to be really, really stupid.

and incidentally, fiddling with the refund system on a game by game basis is extremely anti-consumer, one of Jim’s favorite buzz words.
This was more proof that he cares more about his ideology than the people he allegedly fights bitches for.
He is not a consumer advocate anymore, he is an advocate for SJW developers. He seems to hate gamers just as much as AAA game companies.

That actually raises a question, has a SJW indie dev ever actually made a good game? I’m sure there’s plenty of devs who get radicalized after the fact, especially because not towing the line can kill their careers, but has anyone of them started out as blatant SJWs and still produced something worth buying?

SSI had a Trans Woman working for them developing games back in the day. I forget is she was afterwards. But, she seems like a normal person, and really important to the development of video games as a whole. I know it's not really indie, but I'm gonna get all Akshually on you. SSI in those days would take "indie" games and offer them publishing deals.
