I feel this is possible- Mama Frigly might be one of those old true crime junkies and if Staph was around when she was watching it and it was all the time? Might get some wires crossed in an already unstable mind.
This is why even if someone likes true crime, if they have kids turn off ID channel. Kids are too young to understand the nuances and factors and humanity of situations like that, it’s seen as normal for some reason but it’s not. Not a Puritan or anything but even stuff like Law and Order SVU has some pretty graphic sexual assault scenes and grandmas will happily watch it when the grandkids are over all day.

I think it's impossible they don't, one of her "battle jackets" is adorned with Richard Ramirez patches. Combining that with her oversharing her special interests to her parents, while I don't think she's specifically told us so, I think they absolutely must be aware of it.
And let's be honest, they don't deserve her shit or her blatant elder abuse, but they seem to have fucking weird socially awkward responses to things themselves - As I think any normal parent would have shut that shit down and not let their sped out in nightstalker fangirl shirts.

My mother is a true crime junkie and into the paranormal and rarely turned off what she was watching, even when elementary school-aged Sylvie was there. It was always documentaries, though, but there's only so much you can blame on exposure to true crime at a young age; people can be exposed to that much later in life and have the same sort of hybristophiliac awakening. (ETA) My father also used to play violent and gorey video games around elementary school-aged Sylvie and his brother and neither of us are that fucked up because of it. He was more careful about it when we were in kindergarten and younger, but once we would get to second or third grade he stopped giving as much of a shit. So it really does depend on the type of person that's being exposed to these sorts of things.

I wonder if Papa Frigly is going to keep pressing about Steph’s quack therapist. How long has she been seeing this woman, at least a couple years right? Even if she wasn’t aware of her patient’s maladaptive daydreaming, that still is ample time to work on CBT/DBT exercises so events like what just happened are prevented.
I know therapy is different for everyone and is not at all a “quick fix”, but Steph has had the unique privilege of being able to address and work on her mental health while living at home and not being burdened by a job. The fact that she’s been seeing this lady—who I understand is a holistic practitioner that qualified by the skin of her teeth—for such a long time and has made zero progress is just as telling about that therapist’s efficacy as it is about Steph’s willingness to actually get better. Maybe that shrink is qualified to talk to rich woo woo yuppies that are stressed about the HOA block party, but Steph needs a therapist that will actually put in the hard work to break down her delusions and address her destructive behavioral problems.
You know Staph, if you’d spent this time going to a therapist that actually knew what they were doing, you might’ve had somewhat of a fighting chance getting SSI—you’re never going to get your own apartment, but surely a group home is better than living under your abusive father, right? Instead you wasted years of time and money (so many pins you could’ve bought!!) on an expensive yes man and you have literally nothing to show for it.

I feel like she's been seeing the therapist longer than a couple years, but I could be wrong. They seem to have a mutual understanding. Staph doesn't want to do the work and actually get better, but she does want to whip out the "I'm going to therapy so don't blame me for my shitty behavior" card. Meanwhile, the ""therapist"" collects fees from a patient who will never make progress, and therefore will keep filling their bank account. They both get what they want in the end.
The situation is similar to one of my personal lolcows, who I'd like to post about somewhere but I feel like she's not that lulzy enough to share in the thread proper.
She had a meltdown last month because no one replies to her tweets whining and begging for attention. She had to go to "emergency therapy" because of it. And she's been seeing her therapist for 10 years or more and has made zero progress. Her ipod broke and her parents rightfully told her to get a job if she wants a new one, which she responded with "I can't, I can't do this or that, my therapist agrees!" So why hasn't the therapist helped her get on permanent disability? Why is this 32-year-old (same age as Staph, lol) still a BPD-addled wreck despite a fucking decade of therapy? Why can't this therapist see that and pass her onto someone more qualified? Because she's personally funding their luxury car and they like it that way.

Forgive me if this was brought up before (it’s a long ass thread!) but has Staph ever actually acknowledged that there are kiwis who are part of the same marginalized groups they supposedly are in? It’s just wild to me, there’s no way they can’t know on some level, but I would also expect them to be yelling on about traitors and bootlickers.
