La Palma is rumbling - What are the implications of a 40 foot Tsunami along the east coast?

Thats actually what would happen.

Countries dont recover from catstrophes like this if it happened You couldnt even collect taxes because the IRS and treasury would be gone....

Your money would instantly be worthless. The only thing that matters is wether you have a gun and fishing pole
I live in America and we find some fucking reason to help caveman countries.

Edit: no matter what calamity awaits...the money printer never stops brrrr'ing unless its to help MAGA chud neo nazis

What would happen to people in Florida? I have family there. Do I need to tell them to fly out of state or what?

edit: Trying to read up more on this, wouldn't they be fine, even if they live right on the coast? I'm not smart at these kind of things, excuse me if this is a dumb question.

They will have notice

I wiuld suggest mentioning it and Just have a small bag ready to go and a full tank of gas.

Gas would be gone very quick

Depths are getting shallower as we speak . 2.1 magnitude at 7 km and 2.4 magnitude at 8 km just minutes ago

Very bad day if you are on that island trying to sleep right now
I think you may be blowing this out of proportion just a tad... events of this magnitude wouldn't be perceptible to most. Also, I am no expert, but Miami would likely be the only area of Florida in which there could be major property damage in monetary terms, and from what I understand they have been hiring companies from the Netherlands to build flood mitigation infrastructure for years for at least the most pricey parts of the city. It certainly would be interesting though if such an event were to occur.

It would be important to note here for people who aren't going to bother reading links and articles, that the Canary Islands has had quake storms before, most recently last December, and the fact that it's having another one doesn't mean that this is the prelude to The Big One that may, in the worst case scenario, dislodge a third of La Palma into the sea and cause a tsunami. The Big One could be tomorrow, but it could be that it takes another hundred years for it to finally shake free. It's also true that the models on how big of a chunk falls and how big the resulting tsunami could be varies a lot. So like, pack a bug out bag if it makes you feel safer, you might need it for any number of things before this ever happens though.

Well, God did promise Noah to never flood the Earth with rain again. Didn't say anything about tsunamis.
But He did promise fire:

There is such a low probability of a collapse that you'd have more chances of winning the state lottery.

Even a full scale eruption on the island doesn't mean it would collapse on the western flank. These types of volcanoes inevitably shed weight to become more stable but it happens in the tens of thousands of years apart.

The odds of humans seeing a full collapse of this volcano between now and the next 10,000 years is statistically unlikely - let alone in the next decade or this week.

It should be pointed out that there is a great deal of debate about the stability of the flank of the island but no actual proof exists that it is indeed unstable and a threat of collapse is near or possible.

It is however interesting the depth of the recorded quakes and it is suggesting there is some very real movement beneath the island - but this is what you'd expect to see 1,000 times prior to a collapse over millennia time scales.

I mean odds of seeing shit like vaccine passports were about the same 2 years ago.

We live in strange times

Way to kill my boner dude.

Top my fanfiction:

The Tsunami is channeled directly into the mouth of Chesapeake bay, and completely destroys both DC and Baltimore.

a contest?
Okay, how about a global tectonic event that does what you already describe, but also triggers the "Big One" earthquake in California resulting in California sliding off into the ocean, leaving Nevada as beachfront property as Lex Luthor intended, at the same time the 3 Gorges damn in China is shaken loose and collapses.

Ooh! All that PLUS some nuclear power plants go to shit. Bonus if we get irradiated mosquitoes from the flood waters.

And! Huge Cali quake pisses off Yellowstone causing it to go off. Bears and Wyoming natives start drifting into civilized places that haven't been trashed yet.
