The problem with the recall is that it morphed from "Newsom bad" to "Elder good". The reason why it was close before because people were voting to spite Newsom. Since it became another election now between D and R instead of anti-Newsom, partisans are falling back in line. Unless if there are major defections within the party, which is unlikely because when asked people feel revolted to vote for a Republican at all, Newsom is going to win beyond the need of "fortification." Ie, 5+ percent.

A little fortification is happening as you see, but its unnecessary because Newsom will win beyond a substantial margin of whatever fuckery they needed.

The moment Democrats were able frame the recall as a Trump v Biden proxy rematch Newsom was safe. The only cope that can be had here is that the GOP at least didn't humiliate themselves further by allowing Caitlyn Jenner to become the only real candidate opposing Newsom.

No. Those crowds were near-universally college age, left-leaning democrats. He played really well in the primaries, but a general election is an entirely different beast. Even if he managed to drive that demographic to 100% vote for him, he'd have lost.

If Trump does return in 2024 I don't know how he's going to deal with finding competent and loyal people to staff his admin when he was clearly so bad at it the first time. His pick of Milley for Chairman was probably the worst one he made.

I think it has less to do with Trump sucks at picking people and more to do with that literally NOBODY can be trusted. Even people on "his" side couldn't help themselves to backstab him.

This just proves that not just "The Swamp" but anyone related to politics on the highest level is more lethal than anyone had ever imagined.

His first time around you can chalk it up to a kind of naive inexperience. This time around he's aware that everyone wants to stab him in the back so he should be assembling his own praetorian guard, testing and tempering them to ensure loyalty. Then once in office just replace everyone with his own team, competence or experience be damned, it's not like a novice could fuck up basic duties as much as these traitorous 'experts'.

John Doe is right, nobody was prepared for the sheer vehemence and degree that they'd sabatoge Trump.
