The boyfriend of a 22-year-old woman who vanished in Wyoming last month while the couple was on a road trip together released a statement Tuesday, breaking his silence as he reportedly refuses to speak to her family or the police.

Brian Laundrie, 23, and Gabrielle Petito had been on a cross-country trek together in a white 2012 Ford Transit Connect, documenting their “van life” via a shared YouTube channel. Police in Moab, Utah, told Fox that they had responded to an incident involving the couple on Aug. 12 but concluded that the incident did not warrant criminal charges. A third party made the call. Florida police have seized the van Tuesday as part of their investigation.
Laundrie’s attorney said in a statement, “This is an extremely difficult time for both the Petito family and the Laundrie family. I understand that a search has been organized for Miss Petito in or near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.“

“On behalf of the Laundrie family, it is our hope that the search for Miss Petito is successful and that Miss Petito is re-united with her family,” he continued. “On the advice of counsel, the Laundrie family is remaining in the background at this juncture and will have no further comment.”

As The Daily Beast has previously reported, Laundrie has declined to cooperate with the police. Petito’s family last heard from her on Aug. 30.
Petito’s family responded: “Brian is refusing to tell Gabby’s family where he last saw her. Brian is also refusing to explain why he left Gabby all alone and drove her van to Florida. These are critical questions that require immediate answers. The Schmidt and Petito family beg the Laundrie family to not ‘remain in the background’ but to help find who Brian referred to as the love of his life.”

"Van Lyfe" video:

A glimpse into our van adventures! After our first cross country trip in a little Nissan Sentra, we both decided we to wanted downsize our lives and travel full time, but trying to fit everything for two people into the tiny little trunk of the car, also spending way too much on gas, food, and airbnb, was not the road to take. We quickly realized we had to come up with a solution if we wanted to continue traveling and living nomadically, so that's why we handcrafted our own tiny van, a simple 2012 Ford transit connect, utilizing space with unique designs and features. Creating a space for both artistic expression and distance hiking. Thank you so much for watching, and we hope you tag along on our journey wherever the van takes us! Follow our van life journey for some awesome van life ideas, tips, hacks, camping spots, and so many beautiful places to travel!

The theories people whip up are wild.
My 2c: the dude had absolutely nothing to do with her disappearance, realized how that would look, lawyer up and ended up looking bad anyway.

Or he killed her and is wearing her teeth as jewlery.

He murdered her and is trying to cover it up, I’m calling it.
My money is on the dude being innocent personally. Well, maybe not completely innocent, there could have been an altercation, but I am betting something happened to the girl, the dude realized how bad that would make him look, and did the smart thing of lawyering up immediately and keeping his lips shut. If he was responsible, I'd imagine his lawyers would have advised him to delete and purge all social media to save himself harassment. The fact that they haven't leads me to believe there's more to the story than a simple murder and dash.

I do feel terrible for the family of the girl though, the lack of closure here when the last known person who saw their daughter is in arms reach but is being completely silent. To really pile on the tinfoil, maybe she is trying to escape her family and the boyfriend is attempting to help by keeping them far away? It's fishy and I'm interested to see how this progresses for sure.

It almost never, ever goes that way. It almost always is "dude kills woman, tries to hide it, family stand by son".

Always. The boy kills a girl and suddenly he's this innocent little angel who would never hurt a fly and has his whole life ahead of him. The boys father never even considers beating his son with a hammer and dragging him to the police station.

Gonna be awkward if this was all a stunt to boost their youtube channel.

Certainly gonna hope that. I didn't even know they had one until now.

Cops are not your friends. He did the smart thing even if he's innocent, so it's hard to judge him for that.

Something about this is off and I don't mean the guy. They had a fight, they separated then he left. What about her? I mean gf-bf spats don't end in calls to the police. Apparently she got physical, someone alerted the po po and they made then stay away from each other, at least for one night. I don't think she's this cutesy girl bubbling with excitement over her van life road trip; no one is without flaws. idk, its weird but who knows what happened.

70% of reciprocal domestic violence is started by the woman, so you may be on to something there.

Watched the body cam footage and am generally pissed about the whole thing.
I want to rant about ingrained societal sexism that hasn't been addressed but who cares? Brian is expected to be Gabby's keeper and social media mobs jump on him when she goes missing. He's right not to talk to the police because chances are they would just try to pin shit on him.
The police bodycam from before she went missing just goes to show that every effort was made to put her in a position where she would least suffer from her actions. Repeated arguments are made to defer from the law because "she doesn't pose a threat", "She's a small woman" ,etc. I can understand attempting to defer from that law because the abuse victim doesn't want to press charges ,not necessarily the right choice but understandable, but when your argument starts invoking the traits(race, sex, etc) of the people involved and nobody bats an eye it's pretty bullshit. She was treated better because she was a woman and the system failed to give her the help she needed as a result.
I don't think Brian killed her, I don't think the double murder of the lesbian couple is related, I'm prepared to be pleasantly surprised for both.

Even if they got into a physical altercation, his actions afterwards are suspicious as fuck. Driving cross country in their van, just abandoning her there? Not reporting her disappearance/absence to the police, or trying to find her in any way? Not reaching out to her parents to say “Hey, I left her in Utah/she ditched me in Utah/I don’t know where she is” just out of decency and common courtesy? It’s one thing to drive home after an argument with your partner and leaving them at the bar or a friends house, it’s quite another to drive your co owned vehicle thousands of miles away.

I’d be curious to know if all of her belongings were still in the van when he left to return to Florida. Is the van in both of their names? Has her cellphone been used since she was last seen? Etc.

Depends, if she cheated on him his reaction makes alot more sense... she sucked somebodies dick behind the gasstation and he just went home because fuck that bitch.

Do we know that she was missing when he left?

Not reaching out to her parents to say “Hey, I left her in Utah/she ditched me in Utah/I don’t know where she is” just out of decency and common courtesy?
well the first 2 make no sense, its not his job to call his exes parents. if she was already missing, not calling her Parents is a problem.

well the Police was called, maybe he was very pissed after that and they broke up.

those are the good questions.

also was she last seen in a national park, if yes, why is the police working on this? they normaly dont do much about people missing in parks.
If she wasnt, why should he killed her outside a Park and not inside? now its in the media while a missing 411 would only be in a youtube video in 5 years...
