Interesting, the French don't usually let their surplus enter the civilian market that easily, although this might have been easier to justify with a repeating rifle. The bulk of the relatively-soon-to-be-replaced FAMAS's are going to be given to former French colonies in Africa, and not downconverted/dissected for partskits, IIRC.

There is a very high chance, however, that the military of some west African hellhole is more than willing to get rid of the fresh stash of strange, non-standard rifles of its former colonial overlord for some cash, so i'd expect some to make their way eventually, in one form or another.

I'm of that as well. I would love to get a parts kit FAMAS just like the CETME L rifles awhile back. Everything being an AR-15 clone or US made AK is so boring.

Yeah but it'll be years before that and they'll probably be in awful condition. Let's also not forget that between the almost meme status of the famas, parts kits scalpers and the inevitable FW video they'll be over priced and will sellout immediately.

End user agreements, mean that if a nation buys (or is gifted) weapons they need to go back to the supplier for aggreement if they want to resell them at a later date.

Sure whatever African country they go too, might just sell them on anyway, but they'd never be legal to import into the US.

Also consider that the FAMAS was a fairly successful rifle, and unlike say the SA 80 they didn't have to reopen the production line to produce new parts. So those rifles are being retired because they can no longer be maintained. They shut the production facility at Saint-Étienne in the 1980's and the plant itself in the 2000's.

The French army is a fraction of the size it was in 1979. They haven't previously disposed of FAMAS's so I'm willing to bet they've been cannibalising rifles for spares for years.

Oh, yeah. If any FAMAS parts kit ends up here, it'll be beaten to hell and back and still be overpriced as fuck. Plus we'll have to work with American receivers not made to spec. I get the novelty and I do think it has an interesting system, but it's just not going to be worth the price of admission.

The legal questionability on importation hasn't stopped the wave of parts kits of Russian origin from arriving to the States. I believe they will make their way in on an individual basis, à la AK-12 kits.

I believe you are right. What will arrive will most likely not be in particularly minty condition. That, however, won't stop people from jumping on to it and buying the kits at extravagant prices, like with the PKM parts kits. I sincerely believe there will be a small but intense market for them, for various reasons. 'Meme value' not being the least of them.

As long as a supply of serviceable receivers are available (or adapted from another bullpup system), I could see some enterprising 3D printers fabricating FAMAS shells; and new barrels shouldn't be hard to source, given the AR/tactical parts aftermarket boom.

The person who runs it is Piper Smith, an insane fucking demagogue who runs the motherfucker a Jim Jones style cult of personality and makes sure everyone knows it. They're known for having 30 minute long speeches prior to an AE self defense course on trans inclusivity, and like to make it a very big part of their personality.

I'll type up more stories tomorrow. Fuck. It's some bad stuff and why people don't tend to last long in the activism world without frying their brain cells or being already too stupid to pull the wool in front of their eyes.
