Overpriced eBay listings and the likes. - $299 for a yellowed, no-brand, "vintage" keyboard. It's a deal!

Lately I've been running into a shitton of overpriced listings on eBay, even for the most mundane things. I don't know when this trend started, but sellers nowadays think they're going to cash in by selling useless junk at triple of it's intended value. Shit's getting ridiculous.

I mean, look at this stuff: (don’t mind shipping because I’m overseas at the moment)

$299.99 for a yellowed keyboard without it’s cable?! Who’s going to buy that shit?

image2.png

You can still find those P4 Dells for free at your local recycling center. For that price I can buy a brand new PC!

WTF?! No words.

So yeah, post here overpriced crap you found on eBay, Craigslist or whatever. Let’s all laugh at those clueless sellers.

I think part of it’s because of the pandemic, people are seeing retro collectables selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars and want to make bank on whatever old junk they can find.

That said, looking at listings featuring those new Pokémon-themed Oreo cookies has become a new thing.

I can still find these at my local stores and online for less than 5 bucks per package.

Hundred of thousands of bubble cut vintage barbies were sold back in the day, they go for about $20, maybe $50 if in super great shape. This crazy nigga wants almost $500 for one.

here's one for $58.00 for comparison

These dolls are hitting the 60 year mark so sure, if she's near mint I'd pay a little more but these are easy to find for dirt cheap so almost $500 is insane.

Vidya and anime adjacent blind box figures from the last decade or so have been scalped to absolute nightmare world levels lately and it's a personal mission of mine to find sanely priced ones of the more heavily scalped ones someday just so I know I'm not the only sane person left. These are things that were 5 to 10 dollar mass produced cheapo novelty figurinesand I've watched within the last year prices balloon to $100, $200, $500 and now $900 over the span of the last few months or so.. I have no clue who's buying this shit there's no way someone's paying nearly a thousand for cheap shit like this without some weird scalper bot feedback loop shit involved.
I actually missed a single $30 listing for a non-blindbox thing that was variants of some figures and have not seen listings for it since. Apperently it was some online store exclusive a decade back or so, so technically more rare than the basic shit people are scalping.

Anyways, back on topic, this is one of the many things I've watched inflate in price to absurd fucking levels as of late. One of those slightly more expensive "10 dollar" blindboxes that much like every other blindbox thing has probably been bootlegged to shit by the chinese to the point you got scalped bootlegs mixed in with scalped originals. It's a mix of Supposedly japanese and american sellers using the same exact photos as each other at the same stupidly inflated prices.

Weirdly, the last time I checked before this time it was listings for the individual figures at $700 with the full set being paradoxically listed at $500. It seems the flow of incestuous scalping of cheap shit that's literally worth nothing without people inflating the price is now reverting to a more "understandable" yet still disgusting form.

EDIT: Fuck lmao I forgot to include a thing in my earlier tangent where I found and got a cheap video game blind box figure some guy was selling and still had the box for. Thing is it was one of those weird "chase variants" that scalpers charge stupid high prices for despite them just being a clear version of a figure or having a slight weird variation in color. Sure enough I looked it up on ebay and the things scalped for $300 dollars. Not gonna go and do the scalping thing cause I've seen time and time again it just leads to like 3 sellers sitting on pretty much all listings that are cheaper than theirs adding to their scalper stock. I like having my weird shitty clear videogame man figure shit looks nice on the shelf. Not 300 dollars nice but the things not a 300 fucking dollar item to begin with. probably not making the most sense right now as I'm tired, it's how shit goes with me.

The higurashi blind box figs kill me. I got into the series as late as last year after really enjoying chapter 1 but when I discovered these cute figs based off the original art, it was too late and the scalping was absolutely bonkers.

For me it's mostly video game shit that bugs me, the pokemon games are egregious at the moment but that's my fault for getting into the franchise so late but I can always emulate them, I just so happen to own Yellow that I bought for $5 at a flea market and got a copy of Silver for free that just needed a new battery.
I enjoy collecting games since I had been doing it before 2010 since my mentality at a younger age was "why buy expensive new games when I can just buy used cheap old games?" So my N64 collection is pretty stacked and watching the AVGN got me into the NES and other older systems but everything is pretty much a lost cause with anything Nintendo. Sony PS1 and PS2 are also far gone with obscure PS3 titles following suit. I've resorted to picking up japanese versions of some titles that I've been wanting since knowing japanese to play them isn't necessarily a requirement, mostly shmups and fighting games which english releases of stuff like Marvel vs Capcom 2 or Rival Schools for example are just too much to bother. But again if I really cared about just playing games, emulation is everyone's friend.

Ebay used to be a platform where people got great deals because the items were used or overstock, along with the bidding system and people had the sense to understand that such a thing at least halves the price in most cases. Nowadays cunts out here are using it to jew people out of their money or just treat it as if it was another amazon service.

I can respect hustling - but what is incredibly obnoxious is having retards asking double the price for a used item where literally beats the original purpose of the platform and you get it off of amazon or your local store instead.

Also yeah, scalpers can go fuck themselves. :story: I ain't in a rush to buy a PS5. Just waiting until the time I can go to a store and pick one up for the price it was intended to be.

What's absolutely fucking funny to me is when Ebay scalpers put shit VINTAGE on listings of things that literally came out like maybe 2 to 5 years ago tops. Don't have any examples right now but It's been a thing the last few years that's never stopped simultaneously bugging me and making me laugh. When I hear "vintage" I'm thinking shit that came out 50 years ago or some shit like that, not shit thats from the last decade. some Scalpers apparently think putting that word on anything will get people to buy it.

EDIT: I didn't notice somehow that prior screengrab I sent of the roughly a decade old blindbox figures used the VINTAGE shit till I double checked, definitely need to get more awake. I mean that's KIND OF MAYBE in that territory but it differs depending on who you ask

In the words of one other farmer:
>”NUUUUUUUU ITZ A CHIP SHORTAGE!!!! YOUCANTBEMADATARTIFICALSCARITYASAMARKETINGSTUNT!!!!“

Glad to see i was right about this scalping bullshit.

I also got into higurashi a few years ago and havent heard of those hidden box figures. anime figures are notorious for being scalped even upon release asking for hundreds and sometimes a few thousand.

Found a listing where a guy wanted $10k for a set of joyride studios mechwarrior figures. Per figure. Tried to message him for a lower price and he larped so fucking hard as a ferengi/jew as his profile picture and username, They may as well have been one.
The space jews are behind at least 50% of Ebay scalper listings this is common knowledge.

Oh, and how could I forget how scalpers have infested one of my FAVORITE TCGs…

One thing I’m glad to hear is that people often report these “preorder” listings for violating eBay’s presale policy (product has to be shipped within 30 days of purchase), the set shown in the second pic isn’t set to be released until NOVEMBER.

EDIT: Added another pic just to show how bad it is.

Don’t get me started on trying “make an offer” with Indians. 100 dollar item? I might make a first offer at 80. 20% is a reasonable starting point, and if we haggle down to around 10-15%, I’m happy, and I know they’re still making a profit over their domestic market.
Offer declined. Then they send me an offer for 1% off, and if I counteroffer, they counter with 1.2%. Nigga what the fuck. Bunch of stingy bastards.

along with the bidding system
Bidding on ebay is pointless now because of autobidding, I literally don't understand why it's even a thing.

Ebay, like Amazon, has turned into crap. So much Chinese and/or overpriced junk, almost no matter what you search for.
From a sellers perspective, trying to compete with chink products is a pain, cus even if you've got a sponsored listing and your product is cheaper theirs still gets prioritised. On the occasion you do get prioritised (cus they have low stock or whatever) it's like a ton of sales at once and then dry af as soon as they get prioritised again.
Sometimes if ebay feels like it your listing will also be hidden from searches for 'not being relevant enough'.

I at least have an answer for this one. Keyboard collectors are fucking insane. I can't speak to this specific type, but in the general landscape, this is a very modest price.

Collecting keyboards is a thing? Autism is a terrible thing. Of all the things you could collect, stamps, coins, transformers toys. Instead your autism compels you to collect computer keyboards.
