The boyfriend of a 22-year-old woman who vanished in Wyoming last month while the couple was on a road trip together released a statement Tuesday, breaking his silence as he reportedly refuses to speak to her family or the police.

Brian Laundrie, 23, and Gabrielle Petito had been on a cross-country trek together in a white 2012 Ford Transit Connect, documenting their “van life” via a shared YouTube channel. Police in Moab, Utah, told Fox that they had responded to an incident involving the couple on Aug. 12 but concluded that the incident did not warrant criminal charges. A third party made the call. Florida police have seized the van Tuesday as part of their investigation.
Laundrie’s attorney said in a statement, “This is an extremely difficult time for both the Petito family and the Laundrie family. I understand that a search has been organized for Miss Petito in or near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.“

“On behalf of the Laundrie family, it is our hope that the search for Miss Petito is successful and that Miss Petito is re-united with her family,” he continued. “On the advice of counsel, the Laundrie family is remaining in the background at this juncture and will have no further comment.”

As The Daily Beast has previously reported, Laundrie has declined to cooperate with the police. Petito’s family last heard from her on Aug. 30.
Petito’s family responded: “Brian is refusing to tell Gabby’s family where he last saw her. Brian is also refusing to explain why he left Gabby all alone and drove her van to Florida. These are critical questions that require immediate answers. The Schmidt and Petito family beg the Laundrie family to not ‘remain in the background’ but to help find who Brian referred to as the love of his life.”

Always. The boy kills a girl and suddenly he's this innocent little angel who would never hurt a fly and has his whole life ahead of him. The boys father never even considers beating his son with a hammer and dragging him to the police station.
To be fair you see that all the time no matter the demographic. Boy kills girl, girl kills boy, parent kills child...

Families usually don't want to believe their child, sibling, cousin, etc. could commit such an atrocity so they go into mega hyper cope mode and hold on to any shred of hope "they" could be wrong. One of two things will happen: 1. over time they come to their senses an accept it, especially if it's gone to trial with irrefutable evidence or 2. they never will and will just become militant about how their baby dindunuffin. Obviously 2 is much more likely if the family thinks the murder is justified in some way (see: the Josh Powell family) and 1 is more likely if the relative didn't have any prior criminal or violent behavior.

And of course you do have instances where families are more realistic and inclined to accept it early on. You may have a few hold outs about believing in innocence but they won't last long.

if he didnt kill her i'd say he left in a huff, she went on a hike or a walk and had an accident. she fell off a cliff, tumbled down a hill and into a ravine, snakebite, maybe she became dehydrated, some roughing it accident women are prone to but men arent.

again, if
Most people who turn up dead in the wilderness in California are men. More likely to tackle a steep slope, leave the trail, think "one more mile." More likely to fuck around in the woods alone. Less likely to leave a note.

So Derek Chauvin has a chance?

Edit: on topic, is it an impossible thought that this has been deliberately cooked up by them? Way to get clicks and views. If she turns up alive I'd consider it.

Yes, his case is currently on appeal. In fact the recent news of Mohamed Noors murder conviction being overturned by the MN Supreme Court has people talking about what it could mean for Cahuvins case.

And yes, people have been brining that up but it seems like a colossally stupid way to generate clicks but wouldn't even be surprising with how retarded social media people are these days.

Yeah, but if this was the case with all this media attention wouldn't he or his parents have already cracked? They have a business to run I can't imagine this is a good look for them.

If they have a business yeah I don't think they would have kept this up unless his parents aren't even in on it.

I don't personally believe the idea and think it is dumb if people are taking it very seriously. At the same time, I've been surprised more often than not at social media peoples stupidity in the name of clicks and clout so I should probably just not comment on it at all...

Why hasn't he been arrested for stealing her van?

Maybe he paid for it? Or they're both on the title. In any event arresting him doesn't provide leverage as he isn't a suspect, just a "person of interest", media jargon that gives them an excuse for a circus.

Everything I've seen has said the van was in her name only.

Just because you're driving someone's car doesn't mean you stole it. If they can't contact the owner to verify that it's stolen they have no probable cause for an auto theft arrest.
Just because you booted someone from their car and then drove off halfway across the country there's no indication you stole it, especially if they're dead.

I don't think anyone is demanding he give it back to whomever, because they don't give a shit about it. Regarding the van as leverage; at this point they don't need it as he gave them full access to it so there's that.

Also if she's the owner, she hasn't been declared dead. Only she can demand its return at this point.

Haha there's people chanting "Dirty Laundrie" outside his house. The south is going to see its first lynching in 50 years at this rate. I'll feel bad for him if he somehow, against all odds, turns out to be innocent.

I really can't get worked up about this couple and their mundane goings on. I see bigger problems that require my immediate attention, ie a bunch of illegals being allowed in with no vetting, from all over the world and a government that looks more like a shitty banana republic than the USA.

If I had to guess, he probably didn't murder her but found her overdosed or an hero'd. He freaks out after realizing that the cops would probably pin her death on him, so he left. I'm probably wrong and it's likely that this is the explanation.
