I agree 100% the wikipedia project on a whole does more good for humanity than bad, and 99% of my criticism is because it could be so good and useful, if the idea was a garbage heap I really wouldnt care.A few posts in this thread have criticized wikipedia for having "useless articles" (usually just recent social/political phenomenon), but I think that those useless articles fit wikipedia's intended purpose. Those articles are real things that happened and people have talked about, and I think it's important we preserve that for future generations. Wikipedia is meant to be one huuuuge encyclopedia that has, on a surface level, entries on everything we humans have made, done, or discovered. That's fucking badass.
I would have agreed about 10 years ago, but currently, I view Wikipedia as an absolute cancer that literally harms humanity just by existing.I agree 100% the wikipedia project on a whole does more good for humanity than bad, and 99% of my criticism is because it could be so good and useful, if the idea was a garbage heap I really wouldnt care.
This may sound hyperbolic for some people, but I cannot see this as a baseless claim. From my position I see the current Wikipedia encyclopedical culture too much toxic for its sphere of influence. Wanna see a politics article to simply get informed, well according to the alignment of the editors you'll read an article biased by their points of view. Wanna see a history article, boom revisionism. Wanna see a technology, weaponry, cultural or philosophical article that the developing party has or had ideologies that collide with the ones from the editors, oh ho ho ho, you are not even free from this.I would have agreed about 10 years ago, but currently, I view Wikipedia as an absolute cancer that literally harms humanity just by existing.
Agreed. At this point even a lot of "official" encyclopedias are just as pozed.I think wikipedia is fine as long you only take it with a grain of salt, I mean it sucks but it's internet what do expect really?
This has been an issue since before Wikipedia with political activists grossly over estimating deaths in Africa caused by "colonization". I wouldn't be surprised if the book about Leopould II killing africans written by the cofounder of Mother Jones is referenced on Wikipeda for its population estimates.sources and numbers provided on Wikipedia pages to gauge population estimates
Yeah, Some of the diaspora/diaspora sources I saw cited did not look reliable/usable. And quite a few figures looked like numbers pulled out of some users ass because nothing provided indicated said number. But I guess if Wiki users find it acceptable lol. This has been an issue since before Wikipedia with political activists grossly over estimating deaths in Africa caused by "colonization". There wasn't anything to defame David Firth with so what would be the purpose of him having a Wikipedia article?
He’s a notable content creator with an extensive list of things he’s done??There wasn't anything to defame David Firth with so what would be the purpose of him having a Wikipedia article?
I'd agree with you but then people like Chris O'Neil, Eddsworld, Arin Hanson, Zach Hadel, and on and on all have their own Wiki pages. There's something really bizarre about removing David Firth of all people from Wikipedia. His content is pretty influential and well-known, especially in comparison to those I just listed. He’s a notable content creator with an extensive list of things he’s done??
The wikipedia article was wiped back in March by the wayI feel like this might be coincidental, but a Youtuber named Wendigoon published a video on Salad Fingers less then a day ago, and suddenly his wiki page is deleted.
There hasn't been an encyclopedia in the world worth dick since the 1973 Britannica. I have the 1968 which was before the decay and degeneracy had fully taken hold.Agreed. At this point even a lot of "official" encyclopedias are just as pozed.
In that case I whole heartedly agree with Osmosis Jones' opinion: he's actually not that relevant. His animated series, while well known, isn't iconic enough beyond an occasional reminder that it exists when he posts a new episode. Yes, he's had voice acting gigs, but that was for a video game over ten years ago. You can't really compare him to someone like Arin Hanson cause he puts out content daily and tours around, while Firth takes years to do another episode. Hell, I didn't even know his name until today.
I don't think I've even seen him actually interviewed, I've just liked a lot of what he's made, even more recent stuff like Cream showed a lot of development in his skill set. I think his post-super-edgelord phase is actually better although he's much less prolific. Cyriak Harris is another of that general oddball cartoonist/animator generation, and despite having fairly disturbing and confusing content, he's managed to turn it into a fair amount of corporate money too (which I see nothing wrong with personally).Salad Fingers is his most popular content and he's using it to remain relevant. I can't fault him for that necessarily, he needs to make a living, but whenever he does speak he acts like he's been some counter-culture icon for his entire career despite following the same stepping stones as his peers in his day.
It seems somewhat of an eccentric choice that the cartoon is considered encyclopedic while the article on the dude himself isn't, but the edits GW was making seemed to be eliminating superfluous crap being added in a haphazard way. I can't really say she's wrong just because she's just a bitch in general. In that case I whole heartedly agree with Osmosis Jones' opinion: he's actually not that relevant. It’s the digital ministry of truth
They are so fuckedMost likely someone in the thread decided to change it. Judging by their edit history, they're a mecha anime and 40k nerd, so almost certainly someone who posts here.
Bad move, whoever did this, because Molly White now has your IP address and she knows you're a KFer. You are nothing to her but just another far-right troll. So you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid.
