Glass of Water : The Historical Revisionism of "Modern Standards”
View attachment 3954273
This clarifies her thoughts from the previous
glass of water, the one where she’s recording while ill. Lily is furious that her message was misunderstood as “media made for a different era should be looked at differently and not held to the standards of today” and is blaming this fan misunderstanding on well a lot of things:

The TLDR:
Examine the media you consume with a more critical progressive lens even if it hurts.
Also
When critiquing media set in the American civil war south black people are the only opinions that matter. It can not be hand waved away as ‘It was not a different time’ because white people were as dismissive as people are now. But back then they would phrase it as
[horribly forced American southern accent] “Who cares what dem’ uppity niggers think?” She bleeps the word nigger but the message is clear.
While we’re on the subject when speaking about media like Rocky Horror. Trans people’s opinion on that film is the only one that matters.
She drives this home saying that she understands what it's like. She loves the Warcraft universe but she still is critical about it and would not hesitate to beat the writers of the new era of Warcraft to death with a rock. J.K Rowling too.
Oh fuck me, it's finally here.
Keep in mind that I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't need this video for... future reference.
0:00-0:43 Lily says that this was originally supposed to be part of the Princess Knight video, intro, Lily says she's on painkillers in this video.
Notes: I think I'M gonna need to get zonked out on something to watch this video. Anyway, only the audience Lily has cultivated would treat a possible insinuation that "it was a different time" as a cause for outrage and concern.
0:44-1:54 Lily starts talking about Gone With the Wind (this was the pre-released excerpt), sarcastically says that everybody uncritically accepted the glorification of slavery" and shows pictures of people doing just the opposite because sarcasm
Notes: This bit is stupid for the reasons I've previously noted, that no, these people did NOT "know better".
1:55- 2:07 Lily says that Gone With the Wind was popular but widely criticized.
Notes: I noticed a caption saying that only white people are allowed to criticize books. Wait for it...
2:08-2:40 Lily says that black people, and only black people, were critical of Gone With the Wind and white people didn't care what black people thought, and says that white people "controlled the narrative" even though they didn't do a very good job since the fact that black people protested the movie hasn't been scrubbed from history.
Notes: Great. Just great. It's another "Notice me Stitch-senpai!" video.
2:41-3:59 Lily talks about Rocky Horror Picture Show, saying that cis gays (UGGGGGHHHHHHHH) don't care about the portrayal of trans women as predators even though these stereotypes are how conservatives view the entire LGBT+ spectrum, not just the T.
Notes: Did she just...you guys heard that, right? She said that the movie had all the decadent fucking around- and rape- that cis gays could possibly want. I hope she didn't mean that the way I interpreted it.
4:00-4:38 So apparently back during its initial release Princess Knight was criticized by Japanese feminists for being misogynistic, and the author rewrote it.
Notes: "Japanese feminists" means "radfems", by the way. Never listen to them. They especially have it out for Magical Girl shows like Princess Knight.
4:39-6:29 - Lily finally addresses how Hibari-Kun and Quagmire's Dad can hit too close to home for trans viewers despite transphobes being repeatedly made fun of, says that men are the only ones who hate trans women even though she has to know about transphobia in several lesbian circles...right? She says that trans women are called "traps" (please, not this again).
Notes: I noticed that she only talks about trans WOMEN in this segment.
6:30-8:09 Lily says that the opinions of the affected group are the only ones that matter (presumably unless the "outsiders" agree) and says that white people don't care what black people think, cis people don't care what trans people think, muh racism in fandom, please somebody kill me.
Notes: "Hmm... maybe I should listen to black people on the subject of racism. Oh hey, this Candace Owens person looks interesting!"
8:11-9:39 Lily talks some more about white LGBT+ people and how a lot of LGBT+ media is bad (even though she has previously said otherwise at the end of her Creative Vision video), says that critically engaging with media you consume is important (she doesn't actually do this and never will).
Notes: Lily talking shit about Noralities was the only funny part of this entire video Oh wait, it's because they're white. Well, never mind. Moment ruined forever.
9:40-10:48 Lily says that liking problematic media uncritically says bad things about you even though, let's be honest, somebody saying that they like Gone With the Wind while still being aware of its faults would wield the same resulting judgement. She thinks that people who consider things to be products of their time think that these uppity n*****s just need to shut up.
Notes: I literally cannot imagine anybody liking Gone With the Wind, it's so fucking boring.
10:49-13:07 Lily says the only reason representation has improved is that people criticize and pressure good representation into existence, flip-flops between "things have changed" and "things haven't changed" about five times in the span of a minute or so, video FINALLY ends.
Notes: I thought Lily only "tolerated" Lumity because she wishes that Amity wasn't white? Whatever. I'm so tired that I physically cannot care anymore.
Conclusion: This was fucking awful. I cannot begin to illustrate how painful this was to sit through. But alas, I am a firm believer in intellectual honesty, so I can't in good faith talk about this video elsewhere without watching it here first.
