Choice and consequence RPGs are good when the choices are there to facilitate actually roleplaying a consistent character. I understand not a lot of people really give a fuck about that kind of thing, and only a few games get that right, but that is the appeal to me personally.

PS4 had no games and you can fuck every hot woman on the planet because Geralt is the ultimate Gary Stu. Now look, we are adults and this is just silly shit, but 90% of players nowadays are horny teenagers, imagine how cool is a game where you can fuck any hot woman and they all just throw themselves at you naked without hesitation. It's a fucking harem simulator.

And I'm convinced this is what made Witcher 3 popular, and again, PS4 has no games.
Filling the gap between God of Wars I guess

Sex is cool and female NPCs should be fuckable in any RPG. Have you seen Geralt's competition? Fat Slavic peasants and retards, of course women want to fuck him, even if he is a weird albino.

The Ubisoft model started from Far Cry3/Assassin's Creed 2 is basically the modern collect-a-thon game.
It is, but at least the collect-a-thon back then had narrative reasons for it (the eagle feathers in particular). For me it was when they started putting flashing bits of nothing (animus shards, "prosperity," etc.) in as collectibles that it really went downhill.

Since we're talking about Geralt's sex life, we should have a AAA RPG where your romantic interest is an ugly broad that the dude loves for their personality.

I tried Library of Runia and it was pretty bad. It's very grindy by design and the combat is nothing spectacular. The cards are nothing spectacular either. The power creep is amazing. To the point where cards you find can be 2x or 3x better than what you have. The loot you gain from encounters can be used to unlock further encounters, and gets used up. That means if you lose an encounter, you need to redo the last encounter.

"Fuck around and find out" should be more common a mechanic in video games. From my first time playthroughs of System shock and Dino Crisis Im finding out most 90s games had "fuck around and find out" as a prominent way of learning the mechanics instead of the one or two I thought had it. It is good, it is slightly frustrating dying without a save or plans getting fucked but that doesnt detract from the experience, they still make the experiences good.

Honestly with how fucking stupid modern gamers seem to be, it appears most games might as well be "fuck around and figure it out". The amount of non troll comments and discussions I've seen like "omg 6 gorillion hours in skyrim and I just found out there's a jump button/wowee guys did you know you can sprint in dark souls?" Leads me to believe anything more complicated than a souls or elder scrolls is too much for people anymore. Hell why else does it seem like every game that comes out now has a full blown 100% walk-through within the day?

I mean it less like that, modern games have a problem of "I know exactly what this game is 100% before I even start the game". I have that with most modern games, most recently with my playthrough of the Mummy Demastered cause I basically knew everything about the game in the first 5 minutes whereas going into system shock or dino crisis, I had the general idea of what to do, around 30% but individual mechanics, map layout, resource management, code hunting, item hunting, item interactions, weapon power levels, switch hunting things like that were all "fuck around and find out". It was slightly tedious but it was fun, I was invested in playing more.

Ah, gotcha. I felt that way with Nioh 2 after trying it out recently.

Anywho thread tax: Elden Ring isn't half as amazing as everyone jerked it off to be, but my main gripe is the open world.

Elden Rings open world is so goddamn pointless that I feel like I'm retarded for not liking while seeing the vast majority of people circlejerk themselves raw. And the open world really kicks the story motivation in the dick. Why the fuck would I want or care to become Elden Lord if all I'd have to Lord over is a land full of crumbling ruins and things that wanna kill me on sight? I get that there's a civil war going on between these various demi gods and shit, but am I to believe or accept that the only friendly beings in this world are the fucking merchants and a small handful of NPCS? Most of whom die anyway? Why is there no spot in the entire over world where people are trying to survive this war and just make do?

As is, the game would have massively benefited from just making this Dark Souls 3: 2: Now with Jump Button. Because that's all it really is. Shrink the size if the individual zones by at least 25%, gut about 80% of the copy pasted caves/mines/catacombs, delete the 140+ repeated bosses, and you'd be left with a much more solid experience. Especially considering the actual legacy dungeons flow exactly like every other Souls game does, which is why those are the most widely agreed upon high spots in the game.

It reminds me of peoples favorite criticism of skyrim: Wide as an Ocean, deep as a puddle. They even have an entire portion of the map dedicated to that idea called Liurnia of The Lakes. How nice of them.

But I'm also very aware that a lot of my deep disappointment with Elden Ring comes from having been genuinely excited for it, even though I fucking hated Sekiro. Which is also shit, and I had no hype for that one. The deflection mechanic was busted and trivialized the entire game once I finally got gud with the first Genichiro rematch. No hit, first try, both phases and it was that way for the rest of the game. Once I hit Ishin I was just so fed up I turned the shit off and uninstalled. Shame it took a couple dozen hours to figure this out.

FromSoft is at the point where the quality of the actual games don't matter, like Nintendo and Blizzard, because they have a stupidly over-inflated reputation because of their past games. I'll hold that other than Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne, if their games would have had some other, random name on the box they wouldn't have sold for shit.

I kind of had to respect how crass W1 was. Bioware was getting tons of shit from FoxNews-watching boomers at the time for daring to acknowledge sex exists, but CDPR went ahead and made banging whores into a collectible card game.

I'm not expecting that to be carried over into the remake.
I laughed everytime I got a card in that game. It was so stupid.

More games should let you slaughter NPCs. I miss when that was an option in more shit. Nowadays devs are so scared you'll mess up their '''story''' that you can't do anything but let their retarded characters spout bullshit at you.

This reminds me of westerado double barrelled. It's like a neat little rdr ripoff by adult swim where the story is the same but characters are randomly generated, the game allows you to kill every npc in the open world including mission critical ones and the story will course correct based on your actions. Really neat game.

I'm huge into autistic deckbuilders and play pretty much every single one that comes out, i don't get the praise for this game at all. Definitly shit-tier, i gave up after not even two hours in because it was so brutally unfun in every way. Bad mechanics, bad design, bad story. I had more fun with the ultra-simplistic-but-servicable Helmetman than this shit. Terrible game.

Today's political/social climate would be perfect for a Manhunt 3 entry. You're a mentally ill live streamer looking to avenge fight police brutality amidst a regime through state law. The live chat eggs you on and reacts with every kill, execution, reckless behavior you present. The drugs you're on mask the world around you down to your ability, perspective and psyche.
