A 16-year-old track athlete was killed during a championship meet Wednesday morning in Texas by a member of another team, officials said.

Frisco Police confirmed the student-athlete died "despite lifesaving measures." The suspect, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, has been charged with first-degree murder.

A student from Frisco Memorial was the victim, according to local reports. Frisco Memorial Principal Brook Fesco wrote in an email obtained by Fox News Digital that Austin Metcalf, a junior at the school, had died Wednesday.

The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. at Kuykendall Stadium at the University Interscholasic League's District 11-5A championship meet. Anthony attends Frisco Centennial, roughly 7 miles away from Frisco Memorial.

According to the Frisco Independent School District, the meet was suspended shortly after the incident. The ISD added that the stadium "was immediately secured, and students were released and sent back to their home campus on FISD buses with expediency."

In her email, Fesco said the school "will acknowledge Austin’s death during 2nd period and will offer support throughout the day," adding counselors would be available.

"As a parent, your guidance and support will be important in helping your child process grief. Talking about this together, face-to-face, will give you a chance to discuss how your family understands and copes with loss. You may also want to discuss with your child how to be a supportive friend to classmates," Fesco wrote. "This loss might remind your student of past losses as well. The most important thing you can do is provide your child a chance to be heard and to express their feelings."

"The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain," the department said in a statement. "The department is collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District and will continue to provide any support they need during this incredibly difficult time."

Metcalf, who also played football at the school, participated in both the boys shot put and discus events earlier in the day, with threw distances of 39 feet, 9¾ inches and 86 feet, 4 inches, respectively.

Anthony ran the boys' 100-meter dash in 12.38 seconds and was scheduled to compete in the long jump.

Eight schools competed at the meet, according to MileSplit.

Poor mom, she must be having the worst possible Mother's day. At least she still has one of her babies but what a tremendous loss, especially for a seemingly good child with a bright future. May this trial lead to fewer grieving mothers.

This is speculation and nothing official has indicated as much AFAIK. I have heard that Karmelo was supposed to run that day from what appeared to be the mother of another runner from a different school. I've also heard that because his times were so slow, he wasn't scheduled, which I'm unsure about.

This is still all the detail I have so far.

Where I came up, it seems like they wanted bodies, in part because there's a whole diversity of skill sets involved, but also because there just weren't that many people willing to do shit like shotput so you get the one absolute brick shithouse on the team and you can beat that faggot Gavin Newsom right into the ground.

It also seams like the question of what even is a "team" might not be as straightforward as it would be for something like baseball.

My question is this:

If you're the coach of the track "team" and you're at an event like this, are you allowed to bring everyone thinking that even the fat kids can do something interesting, or is it like "I'm going to bring the most chiseled kids I can find and the others can eat a dick."?

When I ran track, the coaches would let the fat kids tryout for the team, but they wouldn't last beyond 1 or 2 practices and they'd get not-quite-ordered to not come back.
Depending on what events you signed on to run (800m and 1600m for me), how many other runners we had in those events, and how good you were at them, these all determined how many meets you'd go to. Given I was one of the best runners in my school/county, I pretty much went to any meet where 800m and 1600m runs were being held (which was around 11 per season for me) and then I'd make it to Sectionals/Regionals (never was good enough for State).
But if you were, say, running the 100m/200m/400m sprints and you were dead last by a sizeable enough margin to not be very good (but still fast enough to technically qualify as competitive), you'd only be going to the home meets, of which we only had a few (like 3 or 4).

TL;DR - At least at my school, anyone could try out for the team, not everyone made it onto the team period, and not everyone who was "on the team" was actually getting to compete. If you wanted to run at a lot of meets, you had to actually be pretty damn solid.

Its a government entity, it can't refuse to graduate someone for moral reasons. Legally he had all the credits so graduate he does. Also hasn't actually been convicted of anything, legally he's in no different a position than Rittenhouse was in when going through his show trial, would you have refused him graduation?

Then it's only right that Austin Metcalf gets an honorary high school diploma or some sort of graduation tribute. If the school decides to just do this for the nog (which is looking like it is), then they have to face the music and the prospect that parents will want pull their kids out of them due to the preferential BS.
