so thats why my yt recommendations are terrible, worse than normal.
I'm being recommended lots of topics I simply don't give a shit about from obviously illegally recorded zoom hearings to gay political nonsense. DiperAU has a point but he should still get a real job.

My recommends are still normal on the front page and no huge deviation on sidebar when watching videos. Other than RLM talking about the algo changes, the rest that have made videos about it and are showing up to me are under 1k view videos from under 10k sub channels.
Honestly I have a feeling this is just fearmongering a fuckton after the actual dip from the restriced mode tab.
Mine was off and and I've yet to get any age verification notifications or anything but that could be due to my account being from '06.

I don't understand how all these YouTubers blame the algorithm for their low views when they can barely entice a fraction of their own subscribers to watch. If I don't watch a video in my sub feed it's because I'm not interested not because I didn't see it. 2mil subs but 100k views is on you bro. Dead subs don't account for that much.

You play video games (poorly) and cry to the chat the entire time.

Who wants to watch such an overly-dramatic faggot who crys that his easy street YouTube job is drying up? You STREAM, Fatto, literally the lowest common denominator of video production. Get a real job you annoying, fat faggot. FOURTEEN PAGES of job applications will do you some good, lil bitch nigga.

It's true that algorithm is fucked right now, but if you look at his channel, he's getting similar views as before, it's not like he went from millions of views per video to only 10k or something.
I decided to take a look at one of his videos, and holy shit this guy is lazy. It's just a stream vod with minimal editing and most of his videos are over 1 hour long, who is going to watch this shit. He isn't particularly interesting or funny either, he should be thankful he's 100k per video with this kind of content.

I remember an experiment where a machine would reward crows with food at random intervals, and the birds would end up creating little rituals based on what they happened to be doing when the food came out. They'd perform the ritual again frequently, and sometimes that ritual "worked" because it coincided with another random food reward, which was self-reinforcing. I'll let the reader extrapolate how this applies to Youtubers, and what happens when their success is taken away but they keep doing the same rituals.

It seems like Matto's not taking the "YouTube algorithm changes" too well, even floating the idea of retirement to rally up his audience. Let's see what genius way to save his viewership he can come up with this time (after a few days of constant overanalysis, uninterrupted by sleep of course). These, so far, included (not a complete list by any means): removing the outros, moving the Rambles series into a separate channel which was eventually nuked and the series discontinued, ADHD-style overediting. All this and yet here we are...
There were no YouTube algorithm changes.

YouTube's algorithm is extremely simple and hasn't had major changes in years. All it does is it recommend you videos that were enjoyed by a majority of their viewers (measured by watch time and not views, likes, subscriptions, or comments, despite what creators say) where the viewers of the videos also watched other videos that you have previously watched. Watch time is a great metric as it measures how much someone truly enjoyed a video (because people bounce if they don't like a video) and is difficult to game with bots because it requires spending minutes of real time per view in order to influence the algorithm.

As a creator, the ONLY thing that you have to optimize for is watch percentage. If everyone who views your video watches 100% of the video, YouTube will gradually promote it to less and less similar (i.e. larger and larger) audiences. Your watch percentage will eventually go down as YouTube starts recommending it to people outside of your target market, but that's expected.

Now, if you expressed wrongthink political views from 2016-2025, your videos were censored, but that's a pass done after the algorithm and doesn't affect 99.9% of YouTubers complaining about the "algorithm" as their real problem is that their videos suck.

Here it is - "adding more value to memberships", as he put it. The second bullet point specifically caught my eye, as it mentions reuploading his older videos deleted for various bullshit reasons, but now behind a paywall. Just brilliant!
Even the YouTube commenters are catching on and calling Matto out, and it's not like these voices are few and far between. I've attached a few comments to save myself some work, they explain the situation well enough.
