A story is developing out of Marion County, North Central Florida, where a 17-year-old boy named Caden Speight, who was allegedly wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat, went missing Thursday after reportedly being shot and abducted by "Hispanics in a light-colored van," according to local media.


The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a statewide Amber Alert on Thursday for Speight, who was reportedly shot and abducted by "four unknown males, possibly Hispanic" in Dunnellon, Marion County, about 80 miles northwest of Orlando. Police have found Speight's truck but have not yet located him.


According to local media outlet 352today:

Investigators say he may be traveling with four unknown males, possibly Hispanic, in a light-colored van. Local reporting adds he may have been wearing a red "Make America Great Again" hat at the time of disappearance.

Another local outlet, WCJB, cited a Facebook post from Speight's family that included a message from Caden: "I need help. Four Hispanics in a white van, one driver. I'm shot."

The question becomes whether this is a cartel-style abduction... Remember, certain cartels have been designated foreign terrorist organizations.

Detectives said they have gathered evidence that contradicts initial reports suggesting Speight was abducted by four Hispanic men in a light-colored van.

Instead, it is believed he may have left the area on a black bicycle with a red and gray tent purchased from Walmart.

Detectives said they have also found no evidence of a reported shooting around the same time and location where Speight was last seen.

Ok that's good news. Kind of shitty of him to cause this commotion, but at least he's actually safe. Considering what cartels and such are known for, would not want anyone to go like that.

That's good and I am glad that nobody died. Now that the whole ordeal is over, it reminds me of this, because even though the person did it to himself, both of them blamed it on another ethnic group in an already polarised state.

Foundation may seek false report charges after canceled Amber Alert for Marion County teen

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — The Uvalde Foundation For Kids confirmed Saturday it had formally withdrawn all resources, including a reward offer, after the Amber Alert for 17-year-old Caden Speight was canceled Thursday.

The decision follows law enforcement reports suggesting the entire incident, which triggered a multi-agency search, may have been fabricated by the teen.

Foundation officials said they could pursue charges against Speight if it is confirmed the report was intentionally false.

The foundation became involved after Speight was reported missing from Marion County under circumstances initially described as a shooting and kidnapping.

In line with its mission to aid missing and endangered children, the organization offered a monetary reward, mobilized volunteer search teams, and dedicated personnel to check public locations including state parks, gas stations, and restaurants.

The foundation said it also used its specialized school threat assessment database to monitor social media and online activity related to Speight’s disappearance.

Investigators later uncovered evidence, including surveillance footage of Speights purchasing a bicycle and camping gear, indicating the initial story may have been fabricated.

The foundation said it immediately ceased involvement and redirected its resources to verified emergencies.

Daniel Chapin, founder of the Uvalde Foundation, said the incident highlighted the consequences of false reports.

“The resources and time we dedicate to finding a missing child are sacred, and we act on the highest presumption of danger when an Amber Alert is issued,” Chapin said. “This case tragically demonstrates the profound cost of a false report. We wasted countless volunteer hours, expended funds on a reward and extensive search efforts, and utilized our sophisticated school threat database.”

Chapin added that the foundation will seek formal charges if authorities confirm the incident was a “deliberate hoax.”

Florida law allows for criminal charges in such cases. Under Florida Statute 817.49, knowingly filing a false report can be a first-degree misdemeanor, or a third- or second-degree felony if the false report leads to serious injury or death.

The statute allows penalties for giving false information in alleged capital felonies, including up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Courts can also require restitution for costs incurred by law enforcement.

Authorities said Speight has been safely located.

They initially reported he might have been abducted by four Hispanic males but later determined that claim to be false.

Officials have not disclosed what led to his disappearance.

Yea, the more I think about it this smells like a Smolliet incident. Have no idea what he was trying to accomplish, but I hope he gets tried as an adult. Stuff like this is why everyone ignores the amber alert system, I'll see people on my local news site's comment section advocating to get rid of it because most of the time it turns out to be nothingburgers like this. I don't agree with that, but shit like this and baby mama drama certainly damages it in most people's views.

Plus, not even getting in to how it's probably some sort of publicity stunt off the back of multiple instances of recent political violence. Just throw the book at him, I knew better when I was 17.
