Millennials deserve the hate we're getting now, and sadly I predict we will deserve the hate we'll be getting in the future. I've seen many people say that while the Boomers killed the economy, it was Millennials who killed the culture. Boomers suck, but at least the music and the movies they made were superior. lol.
It's embarrassing honestly. We deserve all the hate we're probably going to get in the future
TL;DR: We only deserve the hate if we let the status quo stick around.
Rant below, I’ve earned my top hats with this one.
Enough with the fucking quitter talk. We don’t deserve the hate we’re getting now like it is some kind of magical punishment. We deserve it only because we aren’t fighting back against the bullshit even though we’re the adults in the room now. Same reason why Gen X is about to catch hell in a decade.
Boomers still pull the levers and the Gen Xers are trying to waltz away without taking any of the blame for being the middle managers that kept the status quo, but eventually their children will start asking pointed questions.
Right now millennials are in the “rise or fall” phase of its generation. We don’t deserve future hate unless we let things continue to get worse. Stop lamenting the finger pointing and start doing what little you can for what little you care about.
Boomers are hated now because they built the barricades, Gen X hate is forming for letting things sit, believing they would “get their cut later” (as we’ve seen with our 70+ politicians, that was a no), and we will be hated if we don’t “tear down the system” that clearly not enough of Gen X fought against.
We didn’t have it too easy as kids, the parents had it too easy to control how we were raised, with plenty of distractions to keep us manageable. Everyone “has it easy” as a kid to an adult, and everyone can tell you a story of “how rough it was” when they were children.
Remember at the people complaining about how DOGE workers were “only 20 years old, that’s still a child!”? Those weren’t manchildren, those were a collection of everyone past their primes that fucked up in life raging that Musk pulled a few people past the barricades that were meant to keep talent under control.
Speaking of talent being kept under control, the good movies and music were made by people that weren’t being hamstrung every five seconds. “Boomers” didn’t make the good stuff because they grew up in some magic lifestyle where they weren’t spoiled, they made the good stuff because they actually had the freedom that was promised to everyone. If talent was allowed to flow freely, then we would have more original works of our own that are just as good.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
