Having seen it in it's entirity, how much of it do you think was just uneccessary filler that should be cut? I mean how long would it be if the point of the video was solely reviewing the game and not being prententious and demonstrating his superiority?
I'll just give brief thoughts on his chapters:
00:00:00 - Introduction
I don't remember a single thing he said in his introduction, I refuse to believe that anything he had to say could have taken more than a minute and a half.
00:12:30 - Plot
He does his usual movie schtick with the plot of the game, although to my memory significantly less detailed. The big problem with this is that video games are toys, not movies, the story in them fundamentally serves a different purpose (of course if anyone realized that we wouldn't have games like Star Wars Outlaws or his favorite GoW Ragnarok).
01:01:15 - Characters
As you can see, he spent 2 hours talking about the characters, which was pretty much entirely "this character is very uninteresting" or "Kay Vess is a contradictory mess" (the words self-insert and token never crossed his lips). Maybe you could spend this long talking about interesting characters like Faramir, but the writing in this game is not even notable from a standpoint of being especially bad, or in other words, you can't even make some point about "this is how you don't play character writing". Really this is just Mauler being very excessive in bullying Ubisoft while pretending he has some high class critique that's worth a lot of air time.
01:14:48 - Kay Vess
02:30:05 - ND5
02:55:42 - Dialogue
I don't remember a single thing he said in this segment, although I'm pretty sure he didn't go line by line.
04:07:14 - World
I don't remember this segment very well, but it might be the only part of the video that was not excessively long, you certainly could talk for 20 minutes about a world being bland, empty, and full of out of bounds areas.
04:27:05 - Death Troopers
There is a GTA style wanted meter in this game, and eventually the empire will send Death Troopers to kill you. The Death Troopers do not seek you out, the game tells you to seek them out. He basically says that for 33 minutes with an enormous amount of gameplay clips.
05:00:24 - Reputation
Being very generous, there's 20 minutes of material in this section about how bad the faction and reputation system is. Can be summarized as: you can become friends with every faction in the game, one of the factions is clearly the special boy and everyone else is an afterthought (the pike syndicate literally gives you an imperial outfit as a reputation reward lol). There is no concept of stealth when it concerns the reputation system, if you shoot a grunt from 500 yards away you will lose reputation for "brawling".
05:53:39 - Space
Basically just an extension of his "world" segment, I don't know why he decided to separate the chapters like this.
06:17:26 - Rails
Jontron once made a 3 minute video about Final Fantasy XIII. You don't need to be that brief, but Mauler is being very excessive here.
06:47:10 - Agency
To my memory this is just a continuation of the previous segment
07:28:40 - Stealing
Basically, your rat can steal from anyone while you're standing right in front of them, you can continually steal from the same npc without consequence, and the rewards for stealing are lame.
07:48:39 - Missions
I don't even remember what "missions" is referring to.
08:02:34 - Vehicles, Ships and the Speeder
Basically, the vehicles are lame, they look lame, and you can only ride the one speeder and pilot the one ship.
08:37:46 - Dead Eye
I don't even remember what the criticism was, maybe he said that it was broken?
08:45:21 - Gunplay
Basically, you have one gun, except you can pick up other guns, except Kay will drop them at the first opportunity (nearly any action, or no action at all, will make her drop the gun, for example using a melee strike). Also the cover system sucks bad with the gun not consistently shooting over cover.
09:03:45 - Melee
It's overly powerful and Kay can punch out stormtroopers through their helmet (like that infamous scene in Kenobi).
09:20:56 - Stealth
The entirety of this segment could have been 10 minutes. Basically the stealth mechanics compare poorly to the stealth mechanics in the Stanley Parable (comparison mine).
10:28:23 - Grenade Stealth
Continuation of the prior segment dedicated entirely to the fact that enemies do not react to explosions.
10:39:22 - Artificial "Intelligence"
This is almost entirely gameplay clips, most of which are the same clip from different streamers.
11:30:32 - Movement/Platforming
Basically, even walking does not consistently work correctly. He maybe had material for 10 minutes.
12:03:00 - Ragdolls
This is a short segment, but I'm not really sure what the point is of criticizing the ragdolls when ragdolls are supposed to be humorous most of the time.
12:06:48 - Level Design
I'm pretty sure some of the things I said about his "world" and "rails" segments were actually about this segment. Despite writing an enormous script and dividing it into chapters, he put no thought whatsoever into order.
12:20:58 - Wordle/Rhythm/Sabaac/Arcade/Racing
This segment was too long, but not as much as you would think.
13:03:16 - Nix
Honestly, I don't remember if this segment was bloated.
13:35:36 - Graphics & Animations
Mauler has very little of value to say about graphics and animations, this was basically just a montage of glitches.
14:01:06 - Music & Difficulty
It is very funny that something as important as difficulty was relegated to share a 5 minute spot with music in this 18 hour video. At least Mauler recognizes he has very little of value to say about music.
14:06:26 - "Fan Service"
Tl;dr the game literally has a knock-off of the scene in Rogue One where Vader tells the bad guy to "not choke on his aspirations".
14:25:33 - Checkpoints, Saving, Freezing & Bugs
This game has a completely unbelievable checkpoint system, but I'm pretty sure he spent too long on examples.
14:54:45 - Conclusion
You might notice that he has at least 4 separate conclusion segments. I watched the video and I cannot imagine what he could have possibly said in this segment, much less how he could have made it 40 minutes long.
15:32:29 - DLCs & Updates
There's a possibility this segment wasn't bloated, I don't think he used clips from other streamers in this one.
16:03:06 - An Incestuous Industry
Decent enough critique of the review industry, could have been better.
16:30:41 - The Switch 2 Port
It is very funny that Ubisoft put so much effort into porting this year old game to a console that nobody owns, especially since it's a heavily downgraded port that nobody would ever buy.
16:37:51 - A World on Fire
I don't remember what this segment was about.
16:43:30 - Sales & Consequences
Might have been a reasonable length, can't remember.
17:03:07 - Before the Dawn
??? I have no idea what this segment was, despite the fact it's the one I watched most recently.
