The problem was invading Russia in the first place. Stalin actually trusted Hitler not to invade. Germany's invasion of Russia in WWII created a whole fucking complex with the entirety of the Russian people where many are now convinced that Europe wants to conquer them.
Stalin was planning to invade Germany anyway, just not at the exact same time as Barbarossa - he wanted more time to unfuck the Red Army after his mass purges of their officer corps & their promptly disappointing performance in the Winter War under his own retarded toadies. If Hitler hadn't invaded in 1941, Stalin would've eventually made his own go at conquering Europe when Germany showed weakness under Anglo-American aerial attacks & blockades.
If anything, probably the biggest blunder overall on the part of the Nazis wasn't so much military-related but political/cultural, similar to the Whites in the Russian Civil War: in their case, the turbo racial autism which defined Nazism. Those niggers had captured something like 3 million Soviet POWs toward the end of 1941, and had they not regarded the Slavs as untermenschen puppets of Judeo-Bolshevism to be exterminated or enslaved without mercy, could have recruited them & sent them marching to depose the Communists who had spent the last 2 & a half decades destroying Russia.
But nah, the Nazis being Nazis, the snowniggers decided they absolutely had to kill them vodkaniggers and had much lolz murdering (even without direct orders from above) hundreds or thousands of Soviet troops at a time throughout 1941 even as the latter were trying to surrender, or else left them to die more slowly in & between (in transit, whether on open train wagons or on foot, even when winter set in) various shitty POW camps. They also naturally brutalized random villagers & leveled their homes as they marched. So of course eventually the Russians, Belarusians, etc. were going to decide better the devil they knew, than the one they didn't - except for how he was even more eager to kill them in the most sadistic ways he could think of than the Bolsheviks.
Eventually some less retarded heads prevailed and tried to organize East Slav collaborator formations, but by then it was way too fucking late and the guys they got were either discredited losers who had no way of drumming up popular support like Vlasov & Shkuro, or turboniggers more interested in settling inter-Slav ethnic scores than actually helping out along the Eastern Front, ie. the Ukrainians (see the infamous SS-Galizien unit and the black-red Banderites of the UPA, with the latter being especially sadistic cowards who could brutalize Polish civilians like the bastard spawn of Attila & Genghis Khan but who turned out to be an absolute joke when faced by actual regular Red Army or Polish Home Army formations).
Imagine if some 1488'ing turbo-Fuentes type on meth (including the part about him being a glowie/glowie asset, he joined the Nazi Party's predecessor the DAP as a Weimar glowie!) took power in America tomorrow and launched a crusade against globalism, but upon invading Europe, started slaughtering white Europeans left & right as cucks and race traitors too corrupted by wokeness to ever possibly redeem themselves and without whom the white race would be better off. Even if they hadn't been doctrinaire woketards and actually welcomed or were eager to surrender to the GIs landing on their shores at first. That's about the level of retardation the Nazis & their Wehrmacht got up to in 1941, proof positive that 'too much of anything is a bad thing' is true even of racism.
Also the Russians have had persecutory delusions about being invaded by the outside world for quite a while before WW2, they've been seething about the Anglosaksy since at least the Crimean War. The Bolsheviks used the fact that the White armies were receiving material support from the Entente countries (especially the UK, France & USA) as a propaganda point against them in the civil war, also massively exaggerating the small Entente garrisons around Arkhangelsk to portray the latter as the tip of the spear for a full-on foreign invasion. And so on, so forth.
