Native Americans were enslaved early on. If you read some of the earlier accounts, often the Europeans would immediately set up debt systems where the Natives had to work off impossible debts. It's a fascinating piece of monetary history that doesn't get talked about a lot, although 5000 Years of Debt discusses it.

@Moral plague is also correct: native americans knew the land and knew how to use it. So it was easier to kill them or displace them (which is exactly what we did). This was after European diseases wiped a shit load of them out though. Even so, they were a bad investment since they were more likely to get sick than Africans.

On sickness, this is generally the case too for longevity over white slaves. Ever look at White malaria rates, for example, vs black? Worth a look in the context of the history of warfare. There's some other things I could bring up, but you get what I'm going for.

Ignore the spcific dates they make those up on a whim, its the crux of the ideas. Most of the white people brought over to the "new world" were either the controllers or orphans, I challenge any of you all to dig into your family history, BET money around 1800 you stop having anything beyond a story or maybe 1 photo of an alleged relative with a few, (if your rich) going back further but not much.

It's definitely a mistake to claim that AIs of any kind are conscious, but it's equally a mistake to claim that they are not.

No one actually has a good theory that explains what consciousness is or its connection to the physical and biological processes in the brain.

There's no reason to believe that we can never understand the relationship between the two or formulate a correct model of human consciousness, but because currently we have almost no information about consciousness other than the properties we experience from a first person perspective, anyone claiming that any particular thing is or is not conscious has very little on which to base their claim.

We don't even have the means to distinguish between non-human life that does and does not have consciousness in the same way we do. People who lack an inner monologue or a mind's eye call into question even the universality of what common sense holds to be human consciousness.

The evidence that other humans have first person experience is indirect—and unfortunately for your claim it applies equally well to sufficiently convincing replicas of human speech: others can describe their own first person experience in a way that we understand as similar or compatible with our own. The weight of the evidence is this: if others don't share our first person experience, how can they describe it in a way that appears to demonstrate understanding of it? Someone who believes LLMs are not conscious can argue that they merely mimic the conventions of human language that already reflect collective knowledge of human consciousness. But this argument applies equally well to other human beings!

Such much for evidence that humans are conscious in a way that AIs are not. Now to your claim, that AIs are obviously not conscious in a way that humans are.

The obvious problem is that your argument assumes that understanding the parts of a system tells you everything about its behavior and complexity. We look at the underlying arithmetic and see no consciousness, and from this you assume the system as a whole cannot be conscious. But you haven't exhausted the possibilities of what can be encoded in the system. Further, no one has a satisfactory understanding of how consciousness is encoded, so it's not clear that you even know what you're looking for. In any case, the constituent molecules of the human brain do not have consciousness, so clearly your argument is too broad: it rules out the possibility of human consciousness as well.

To summarize, anyone making definitive claims about consciousness proper should produce first an explanation of what consciousness is, and show how it is uniquely compatible with what we know about consciousness. This is unlikely to happen in the near future, because at present it doesn't seem that our current body of knowledge even comes close to uniquely determining a model of human consciousness.

When you use words you can't define, you don't even know what you're claiming.

Have you ever legit visited a historic civil war site that's in the US? A brick one with primarily external load-bearing brick walls and wood throughout? I have. There's nothing unusual about bricks being scattered all over the fucking place. I've done a good amount of research regarding the families and timelines AROUND those sites at the time too. So like... wut? I can't even fathom.

Altho the evidence is very scant thus far, I think the Penrose idea of quantum consciousness residing in the microtubule of human neurons is compelling. I try to keep up with any new papers written on it, but again, scant evidence thus far but an interesting idea.

LLMs limits, thus far, suggest to me they can't be conscious given what they're not good at. Forget complex thought; they can't manage more highly compressed chains of reasoning that humans do fairly naturally, among other things. But yeah, normies with no internal monologue kinda makes me question everything because wtf.
