I know I come here all the time to ask questions, but I've been away from homestuck for years and you all are little people on my computer, so help me.

Regarding the Homestuck games (Hiveswap, Friendsim and Pesterquest), just how worth it are they? How much do they respect the original writing? How much of it is it an expansion of the comic vs just plain fanfiction?

Hiveswap is currently unfinished. The rest are just VNs and yeah they're basically just fanfiction.

Of them all, Ive only played the first Hiveswap. Ive got the second one in my steam library, but I decided it wasnt worth the 2-3 gigs to install and try it out.
My experience with the first hiveswap was basically the same as my experience with act 6, except it was even more divorced from canon, so I just didnt care about it.
With act 6, at least, I had the motivation to find out how it concludes what the previous acts built up.

The game's basically just a buncha chatlogs without the hussy-spin that makes the early chatlogs tolerable/enjoyable.
The gameplay is so forgettable that I have nothing to say about it.
 
it seems that someone has issued a DMCA strike on the unofficial homestuck discord server. who could've possibly done such a horrible thing? maybe the same person who issued a mysterious strike on the largest MSPA collection to date? perhaps the same person who dishes out legal threats like candy within the MSPA sphere? who knows!

He's a control freak and hates the fact he does not own the biggest Homestuck community. He tried and failed to take over the subreddit and it's Discord server, so now he's playing dirty.

God damn I turn myself NONOCHROME FLESHLY COLORED for SEVERAL DAYS and this is what fucking happens?

It's funny because this is the opposite of the shit they were doing earlier of making official shit and calling it unnoficial/non canon/beyond canon there's something very dubious in a not too dubiously canon way about this. Interesting how both parties seem to fear monger about this site and from what I've glanced now they're like eating each other alive after this DMCA. Too tired to go over and catalogue all this shit on the spot but I literally just foing all this out NOW while I came out of a brief collapsing unconscious time and was met with this shit checking this thread after seeing there was activity.

I'd reccomend if anyone can do it to fully catalogue the meltdowns and cannibalism of these guys if possible. also turn off clown cocomelon I think it's corrupting the little guy.

It's just so strange. The reason for Homestuck's popularity (or perhaps notoriety) was clearly fan influence on the series. From a very straightforward perspective I can see the logic of "community make series good, therefor take control of community like it's an asset", but are those involved really so unable to see beyond that immediate perspective? It's obvious to a normal person that self-direction is an inherent quality of natural community. I'm tempted then to believe that these actions have to come from the reductive, lowest common denominator, board-based thinking from WP, Viz, or whatever's controlling the license nowadays.

I thought he was really hands off from Homestuck after the finale.
Correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't Psycholonials supposed to be a huge metaphor for him letting go of the massive, and at times unhinged, fandom that he created and ultimately lost control of?

Why is he so controlling of it now?

So much for everyone who thought this was going to pull in newgen fans. I know barely anything about Homestuck except that Sarah Z video, the black ink bathtub, and that Vivziepop was kind of a lolcow in that community back in the day, but this is the vibe I got:

It supposedly wasn't written by vivziepop but it was like parody level vivziepopism writing and lacked a majority of the appeal Homestuck had when it came out. Characters acted nothing like they did in the comic (save for Jade weirdly) and every potential quiet somber pause was replaced by textwalls of QUIRKY DIALOGUE that was like a combo of the worst of bootleg didneymarvel and something else I can't quite pin down while my head is hurting right now. Animation was nice if you like bouncy animation but it's also not quite there in some places .

Seeing rose being turned into "groans at everything dumb male lead says" kinda character when in the actual comic her and John bounced off each other with their corny jokes and john doing things he did in the comic because he found them funny but angry and annoyed while doing the funny things instead of even addressing the goofy shit he's doing is really a highlight of showcasing why it's really kind of off.

Basically the thing is memberberries animation for homestuck while trying to get a "new audience" and fucking up every aspect of it basically.

Also I don't think learning about homestuck from video essayists who did so with a specific agenda is a good way to find out about it but I've already said that countless times before. Taints the whole fucking thing for a lot of people.
