Mega Rad Gun Thread

I gotta get myself a Model 29 some day. Should I go for one with the 6-inch barrel like on screen, or the 4-inch barrel like originally intended?

There's also 8-3/8", which was used in some scenes and promotional materials for the Dirty Harry films to give Harry a more intimidating visage. My first Model 57 was 8-3/8" and it certainly was a big gun, but the extra length and weight did help with recoil a tad. My current Model 57 is a 6" model. I would love to get a 4" model one day.

If you're looking for something just for the range then either length will be fine, but the longer barrel lengths will help with recoil and accuracy since they have a longer sight radius. If you're considering carrying it, then the 4" will probably be best. I personally think the 4" N Frames look the best, unless they are a stainless model with a full underlug barrel, then pretty much any length looks nice. I personally prefer the full underlug barrel on revolvers, but that wasn't an option on the vintage N Frames that were only available in blue carbon steel.

My vintage Model 57 .41 Rem Mag from 1968 or 1969.

This sounds promising:

EXCLUSIVE: DOJ Announcing Repeal of ‘Several’ Biden Gun Regs Wednesday
29 Apr 2026120
2:00

The Department of Justice is holding a signing ceremony today in which Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche “will preside over the signing” of a “landmark rulemaking package” from the ATF.

Breitbart News spoke with the DOJ and they made clear the package includes “repealing several regs from the Biden administration” and making “revisions to Form 4473.”

In other correspondence, it was clear that the “landmark rulemaking package…[represents] the culmination of DOJ’s and ATF’s comprehensive regulatory review conducted pursuant to the direction in Executive Order 14206 (‘Protecting Second Amendment Rights’).”

Breitbart News reported that President Donald Trump signed the “Protecting Second Amendment Rights” E.O. on February 7, 2025, and we noted that the E.O. made clear that President Trump wanted an assessment of any infringements that occurred due to presidential action under former President Joe Biden and due to DOJ and/or ATF actions.

The ceremony is at 3:00 p.m. Eastern and Breitbart News will cover it as it happens.

The ATF has fucked around with bracing rules so much that the average person really has no idea if they are legal or not. At least for the gun owners I know, none of them give the slightest of shits, either. Not sure how much this will stick considering that the ATF routinely makes up rules out of nothing and implements them overnight, but at least for the time being I would be pleased if the brace nonsense was put down.

Bondi was the worst Trump pick by far.
Bondi was the worst Trump pick so far. Let's not be pessimistic here!

Reading through the new ATF proposals, I'm not seeing anything earthshattering but there are several nice quality of life changes. A lot of them are aimed at making things easier for FFLs, but I'm happy to see that we also got some changes for owners of NFA items.

ATF is proposing to update the administrative process for transporting lawfully registered National Firearms Act (NFA) firearms within the United States. Under the proposal, individuals transporting NFA firearms for short-term purposes (365 days or fewer) would no longer be required to submit advance notice to ATF or await approval before departing. Individuals transporting NFA firearms for long-term purposes (more than 365 days) or permanent relocation would still submit notice but would not need to await ATF approval before transporting. This change to ATF Form 5320.20 (Form 20), per 27 CFR § 478.28, is intended to remove an unnecessary regulatory burden on law-abiding NFA firearm owners without affecting applicable federal, state, or local legal requirements.
ATF is proposing to allow individuals who make National Firearms Act (NFA) firearms by altering existing firearms to adopt markings already applied by the original manufacturer rather than applying additional, redundant markings. Because the original importer and manufacturer’s serial number and markings are already required by statute and regulation, this proposal eliminates a duplicative regulatory requirement while ensuring NFA marking requirements are satisfied. ATF has previously accommodated this practice through individual variances; this proposed rule codifies that accommodation into regulation to provide consistent, clear guidance across the industry.

These ones in particular should make making and owning SBRs significantly less of a hassle. Other highlights include joint NFA registration for spouses and easier importation of firearms.

The ATF (x) has posted summaries of the new regulations, which include:
  1. Repeal Biden's pistol brace rule
  2. Revising "engaged in the business" rule
  3. Revising machine gun definition in response to Cargill decision
  4. Remove requirement for FFLs to post info about Youth Handgun Safety Act
  5. revising 4473 form, including allowing electronic forms and increase the time NICS checks remain valid
  6. Allow FFLs to keep electronic records
  7. Replace indefinite retention of 4473s with definite time periods of 20 or 30 years
  8. Allow “Non-Over-the-Counter” firearm sales by FFLs to residents of the same state
  9. Repeal interstate NFA transport notice requirement for trips under 365 days, with all others no longer requiring approval before transport
  10. Joint NFA registration for married couples
  11. Remove NFA CLEO notification
  12. Clarify that "common, reasonably necessary activities during travel" are covered by FOPA transportation protection
  13. Allow import of dual-use frames, receivers, and barrels
  14. Clarify that "training rounds" are not ammunition
  15. Eliminate engraving requirement for people making NFA firearms out of existing serialized guns
  16. "Clarify that a person receiving assistance in only one functional area (such as financial management) would not, on that basis alone, be considered prohibited" under mental health disqualifier
  17. Requiring biological sex on ATF Forms (kick rocks tranny faggots)
  18. Clarify when a transaction is a straw purchase
  19. Formally define "willfully" for firearms violations
  20. Remove the list of former Soviet countries from which ATF currently denies applications to permanently import most firearms and ammunition, retaining only the Russian Federation"

We're eating good tonight!

Allow FFLs to keep electronic records
This is really nice for FFLs. The physical copy requirement has been out of date for thirty years at this point.

Remove the list of former Soviet countries from which ATF currently denies applications to permanently import most firearms and ammunition, retaining only the Russian Federation"
Oh wow, this one is actually pretty damn big. From what I gather, a ton of ammo is barred from import from old USSR satellite states, so this might actually eventually lead to a nice bump in cheap foreign ammo coming in.

And ya'll laugh at my boy sgammo.com's newsletter! When he finally came off his private stash of the russian stuff that telegraphed the import ban was ending!
