Quick info: apparently the Judicial and Legislative Committee is the branch of the City Council that discusses settlements and includes the amounts.

The minutes of their last meeting on 5/4/2016 are here:

Their next meeting is 5/26/2026.

Their meetings are streamed in two places.

The physical location of the hearing, presumably open to the public, is Room 301-B of City Hall.

You'll note the page for last meeting includes an agenda pdf. It's possible they put that up first. It listed the settlement issue, so if Tomlinson's name isn't in there, it's probably not at the meeting. Probably worth checking before actually going there.

It's possible they have a threshold amount for whether a settlement is worthy of discussion, so if they don't even have it as an agenda item, he got birdseed, or at least less than $150,000.

That's not what happened. It's $150,000 for settlement of one case, Berry Beverly v. City of Milwaukee. Milwaukee's Damages and Claims Fund for 2026 is $2,500,000 (Milwaukee detailed budget pdf).

I mean he was right though. Like after the third swatting maybe the city should figure out something is up with that particular address and stop sending armed hitsquads to his house.

He took a swing at a cop on the first one and had a history of violent threats that led to a conviction for threatening to murder a baby.

Also most of the "swats" were just knocking on the door and making sure nothing was amiss. In any event, none of the cops were shown to have done anything wrong.

So why would they need to put it on the agenda at all? Just pay it out of the general fund. If they raise special money for a $150,000 case, there's some kind of trigger amount. In any event, it's worth checking the agenda before the 5/26 hearing.

They generally can't just pay it out, settlements from the fund still need to get approved by the city council.

Amounts larger than $5,000 get voted on. For example, I found a case of one J. Munoz getting a $10,000 payout from Milwaukee in a matter involving excessive police force.

Incidentally there are previous hearings where a lot more pedestrian cases were considered. If it actually does, for some reason, end up covered, it would definitely be cheaper than messing around with FOIA.

Also there are apparently records of the Damages and Claims Fund (probably where Rick would be paid from), but they're in the City Records Center and probably don't exist yet anyway.

We have plenty of time to figure it out, though. In any event, it's nearly inevitable that if any money changed hands, there will be an easily available public record of it. If there isn't, it means he got jack and shit, or maybe even a deal that amounted to "if you fuck off right now we won't seek sanctions."

So the payout has to be more than $5000. He isn't bragging about winning a lawsuit on Twitter so it can't be a lot. Maybe 10k with half actually going to him. I hope he gets jewed on the vote and gets nothing because it'd be funny to see him seethe.
