Did KickStarter explicitly ban CG books, as she claimed? The way I remember it was that they were just giving Zack a runaround before accepting his campaign, and he eventually got frustrated and went to create a IGG campaign instead. Van Sciver and the rest then followed him over.

Perhaps KickStarter delaying his campaign was a silent deplatforming, but I don't think we have proof of that.

I rarely back kickstarters to be honest. Too many just run away with your money or take too long. I don’t think they’ll go broke, but they’re pretty sketchy imo.

YaBoi ran into some trust and safety council bs about his giant monkey book being against their rules, fuck knows what rules it broke. Everyone saw that as him getting unfairly roadblocked for no reason and decided on IGG as their platform.

While it's hard to deny that CG does have some crappy people within it, anything they have against EVS or YaBoi is really scraping the barrel.

And even then Disney frequently elects to use other publishers for their various comic adaptations and spinoffs, which seems to indicate they’re at least somewhat aware that they shouldn’t use their own comic publisher if they want quality.

I don’t know, while you could maybe take out all the Inhuman shit that Kamala was shackled to, I think there’s still a snag that her origin is still “she walked into a fart cloud on her way home from a party and came out the other end with super powers” and that changing that kinda changes the dynamic/trajectory of the character. And with how little marketing/publicity Captain Marvel’s been getting (at least from what I’ve seen) Disney seems to know that Captain Marvel isn’t looking great, so who knows if they’d be willing to try again if that fails.

I think she’s supposed to be more like Plastic Man where she’s a mix of stretchy powers and shape shifting (she even turns into Carol in the first few issues), but from what I’ve seen the Marvel writers he was given aren’t very imaginative and just have Kamala spam the shut out of making her limbs grow and stretch, to the point casual readers assume that’s all she can do.

Among the nerd circles I run with, they really want to salvage Ms Marvel by retconning her into a mutant instead of an inhuman. Her being an Inhuman is probably her biggest setback, not only is she part of a bargain bin (in-Universe) knock off X-Men, her powers are massively underdeveloped.

The Inhumans have never been as popular as the X-Men, outside of very few characters (Black Bolt, Medusa), it would be very difficult to find someone saying their favorite character is an Inhuman. The Inhumans would have been fine if Marvel didn’t try to replace the X-Men with them, because of that one move, they turned apathy to genuine hatred and it has massively damaged the marketability of them. They went from having 3 ongoings (Black Bolt, Secret Warriors, Royals) to just 1 event (Death of The Inhumans) without any current ongoing (not counting Ms. Marvel and Moon Girl/Devil Dinasaur).

It’s really a shame that the writers assigned to Ms Marvel barely even try to play around with her powers. At most all she’s done past the first 3 issues with her powers is enlarge, shrink, make her hands and feet big.

It's almost not fair, but it's not like Plas hasn't had some AWESOME shapeshifting moments over the years prior to Kamala Khan's debut. They could at least borrow a few and make an homage.

I'd be interested in Kamala using her shapeshifting powers to explore her connection to Islam that everyone who writes her is so desperate to bring attention to. Her stupid facemask could be morphed into the various Islamic forms of female modesty with enough stretching of her already ill-defined powers. She could have a friend that is revealed to be in an arranged marriage and has parents making her dress more strictly, to the point Kamala can't hang out with said friend because she doesn't wear a hijab. The friend's parents find out the girl doesn't want to get married to Mr. Snackbar and secretly arrange an honor killing or to shun her, if the honor killing route would be too dark. Kamala uses her powers for some espionage type shit and finds a way to help her friend. Cue her manipulating her body in scary situations and doing other things besides making her hands YUGE

Obviously, this would never happen because Islam is the religion of peace and saying anything bad about it is strictly verboten. Ms. Marvel tries to address social justice issues in its own inept way, and making Kamala deal with actual social justice issues that exist (ie. not Drumpf MAGA strawmen) could be her gimmick. What I suggested wouldn't be something for Ms. Marvel's current demographic, but the concept behind it could be adapted into something more tween-friendly.

If SJW Marvel wants to throw away the escapism that propelled comics into cultural relevancy, they may as well commit to the bit.

I guess I can see what she meant - if someone can shapeshift, nearly any foe or problem can be beaten by changing shape to accomodate it. So the writing would need to make it so either a)the situations can't easily be solved by changing shape or b)overpowering the enemies.
