Mikayla Raines, founder of the popular animal rescue organization Save A Fox and a well-known YouTuber, has died by suicide, her husband Ethan Raines confirmed in a heartbreaking video uploaded to the Save A Fox YouTube channel on June 23, 2025.

Mikayla, who was known for her tireless work rescuing and caring for foxes and other exotic animals, had been battling severe mental health conditions including depression, autism, and borderline personality disorder. According to Ethan, despite years of therapy and various medications, she continued to struggle with daily life and emotional regulation.
In his emotional 11-minute statement, Ethan revealed that Mikayla had been the target of a prolonged online harassment campaign. The abuse reportedly came not only from strangers but also from individuals within her personal life and others in the animal rescue community.

“They spread false rumors, and being the sensitive person she was, it deeply affected her,” Ethan said. “She tried for years to push through the pain, but this time it was too much.”

Mikayla is survived by Ethan, their daughter Freya, and the many animals she cared for at Save A Fox’s Minnesota and Florida locations. Ethan has vowed to continue her legacy and the mission of the rescue.

Fans and fellow animal lovers expressed shock and sorrow online, paying tribute to Mikayla’s impact on the rescue community.

I'm certainly not complaining since I hate Reddit more than life itself but it's weird to see Reddit catching flak from normies.

Reddit is an ultraleftist temple of TDS. Normies aren't supposed to criticize them for any reason, because obsessively hating Trump makes them the ""Good Guys.""

Reddit is just where the dregs of society congregate but with the veneer of being like any other random forum site. Most people just click on reddit once in a blue moon to find solutions to hyper-specific problems then go on with their lives.

This idiot has no idea what she's talking about. PVC is typically glued together, it can be threaded and pipe dope should be used, bit how the hell does a fox with no thumbs unthread a pipe? Also, what the fuck does she mean PVC gas line joints? The carbon monoxide is a gas that's emitted from the combustion of natural gas. Is she talking about the furnace exhaust which removes the monoxide? Typically that's 2 inch PVC that's glued together and it's directed out of the house. Gas line is black pipe that is threaded and sealed with pipe dope. Sounds like a natural gas leak, but how the fuck does a fox untread or chew through black iron pipe? None of this makes sense whatsoever. It sounds like she had a shitty install of her furnace.

I feel like that's saying the only way to treat autism or bipolar disorder is death. There's no such thing as a cure but there are things you can do to manage it.

Sometimes it does get so severe to the point that there's nothing you can really do, but I don't like how people have this mentality that it's always that way. Very black and white thinking imo.

An important component of this is having people in your life that can tell you straight up that you need help. Since it can be pretty hard with severe mental illnesses or disability to gain the self awareness needed for change. Seems like she had no one like that in her life.

So I would catch this lady when shorts had just come out and the algorithm was just feeding me lowest common denominator content. Back then she had like 15-20 something foxes and you could see a legit rescue operating on that scale, foxes have high churn I would imagine, since they make terrible pets (See Waverly above lol). Once you start buying out 500 heads from a fur farm that is a different story... Like what did she expect to accomplish? How does this do anything but increase the demand for foxes? I would like a full breakdown on that particular topic, how the heck did she spin it?

There is some merit to doing fox breeding for pet trade in the long term.... Give it generations and generations of highly selective breeding and you could have a manageable pet (that will probably be inbred as hell and riddled with health problems)... but I don't know if it should be industrialized (puppy mills are the problem in terms of poor conditions and poor genetics). It should be done for task, organically, like with dogs, if it is done at all.

Ps. I'm not a PETA nut who wants to abolish pet ownership for 'muh global warming' or some shit but some of these people just need therapy (or a job at the zoo). We have a social contract with dogs (best bros forever), cats wouldn't have it any other way, guinea pigs are cute food, fish and reptiles are fine if you know what you are doing and can afford all the fucking equipment... but Parrot people, monkey people, big cat people, hot snake keepers, XXL snake keepers.... like if it needs more attention than a toddler and will outlive you with ease, can rip your face off and eat it without warning, requires two people to handle, can slink upstairs and constrict some kids for fun, or you loose an arm by spooking it...You need help!
