Mikayla Raines, founder of the popular animal rescue organization Save A Fox and a well-known YouTuber, has died by suicide, her husband Ethan Raines confirmed in a heartbreaking video uploaded to the Save A Fox YouTube channel on June 23, 2025.

Mikayla, who was known for her tireless work rescuing and caring for foxes and other exotic animals, had been battling severe mental health conditions including depression, autism, and borderline personality disorder. According to Ethan, despite years of therapy and various medications, she continued to struggle with daily life and emotional regulation.
In his emotional 11-minute statement, Ethan revealed that Mikayla had been the target of a prolonged online harassment campaign. The abuse reportedly came not only from strangers but also from individuals within her personal life and others in the animal rescue community.

“They spread false rumors, and being the sensitive person she was, it deeply affected her,” Ethan said. “She tried for years to push through the pain, but this time it was too much.”

Mikayla is survived by Ethan, their daughter Freya, and the many animals she cared for at Save A Fox’s Minnesota and Florida locations. Ethan has vowed to continue her legacy and the mission of the rescue.

Fans and fellow animal lovers expressed shock and sorrow online, paying tribute to Mikayla’s impact on the rescue community.

Actually of all the serious personality disorders BPD has the best recovery rate thanks to things like DBT therapy. In fact clinical studies have found that most Borderline women lose the disorder completely after menopause.
Unfortunately though BPD can be co-morbid with other disorders that don't just go away over time such as NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) which has pretty much a zero percent recovery rate in a lifetime. I don't know this woman, and it's very sad she took the coward's way out, but I would guess she had a lot more inner demons than just BPD tormenting her. In my studies I've found that many seemingly well meaning, altruistic types are in fact very narcissistic because it gives them recognition supply. Also animals like dogs give unconditional loyalty to the narcissist. I should write a paper on my experiences with "dog rescue" women. Perhaps not in this woman's case, but it does give food for thought that things are not always as they seem.

I don't think most wild animals are known for giving unconditional loyalty. I'd imagine the foxes were very high-maintenance and not particularly obedient.

Just as with the pooner phenomenon, eating disorders are part of social contagion, but the inciting event for that spiral will be trauma, usually rape, or often, progressive sexual abuse form a father, other relative, or family friend, putting the C in CPTSD. BPD happens for the same reason w/r/t CPTSD, but there are other factors, such as neglect or generalized chaos and neglect from an alcoholic caregiver. Adult children of alcoholics know this territory so well that their self-help groups are recommended to children of borderline parents whether any addiction is present or not. A BPD parent, ironically enough, is often an adult child of alcoholics, so this is intergenerational trauma, the real kind.
Referring back to the featured text in my screenshot, the misdiagnosis of mental health patients is a huge problem. It is political in the context of trannies claiming political oppression over a fetish, drowning out the voices of women who have been sexually abused, and even some trannies who have the same issues. Often male patients who present with BPD traits, for the sake of being male, will be diagnosed as ODD or APD depending on age. These guys often wind up in jail. A woman with the same traits, more often internalizes her abuse, so she will be forced to contend with having an invisible mark of Cain on her forehead that only predators can see. When she reacts in classic PTSD fashion, she then becomes the villain to otherwise disinterested parties. This same sex difference can be seen in boys and girls who grow up watching their mother get beaten by their father; boys grow up to emulate the father, girls emulate the mother, and the intergenerational trauma continues.
Taking all of this poor woman's afflictions into account, yes, it was probably challenging to cope with them, but clearly she was loved by her immediate family and many others.

tl;dr: BPD is mental vaporware assigned by quacks who don't know how to get a good case history, and most shrinks should be taken out and maimed.
