Mikayla Raines, founder of the popular animal rescue organization Save A Fox and a well-known YouTuber, has died by suicide, her husband Ethan Raines confirmed in a heartbreaking video uploaded to the Save A Fox YouTube channel on June 23, 2025.

Mikayla, who was known for her tireless work rescuing and caring for foxes and other exotic animals, had been battling severe mental health conditions including depression, autism, and borderline personality disorder. According to Ethan, despite years of therapy and various medications, she continued to struggle with daily life and emotional regulation.
In his emotional 11-minute statement, Ethan revealed that Mikayla had been the target of a prolonged online harassment campaign. The abuse reportedly came not only from strangers but also from individuals within her personal life and others in the animal rescue community.

“They spread false rumors, and being the sensitive person she was, it deeply affected her,” Ethan said. “She tried for years to push through the pain, but this time it was too much.”

Mikayla is survived by Ethan, their daughter Freya, and the many animals she cared for at Save A Fox’s Minnesota and Florida locations. Ethan has vowed to continue her legacy and the mission of the rescue.

Fans and fellow animal lovers expressed shock and sorrow online, paying tribute to Mikayla’s impact on the rescue community.

Has anybody ever seen footage of those 500 foxes because I haven't.
I mean, 500 foxes is a lot!
I went quickly through her youtube channel and based on that footage I'd say she had about 20-30 foxes. But 500? Nah.

Is there fuckery about with this? Something about that seems weird. Do they not need to worry about property taxes if the property is a non profit?

Foxes can be very picky with who they get along with. It came up pretty frequently on SAF content, where foxes had to be separated and moved to different enclosures because they would get bullied by larger or more dominant foxes in the same yard. You definitely don't require separate enclosures for every single fox, but depending on which ones get along, you do need one for every 2~8 foxes on average, which each need smaller enclosures for the foxes to sleep in at night.

Then you also have to consider needing separate enclosures where foxes can be separated if they need to be apart from their usual group, i.e. if they're been to the vet and need recovery time. The more total foxes there are, the more of these special enclosures you need.

If anyone's gonna mention the Japanese fox sanctuaries and how many foxes they keep together, you should look into them a bit more. Their conditions can be pretty horrible, and fighting/stress is an extremely big issue for those sanctuaries.

Hate to bother you but can you figure any possible way that this retard could have been able to find 50 fur farms around her area? I know it sounds retarded to ask, because me asking it now makes me feel retarded, but genuinely curious, because it seems like such an operation would be illegal so how did these two retards find all these animals?

Again, I just googled Fur Farms Minnesota and never found anything. This is a duck quacking is a duck situation isn’t it?

Edit: I’m just super interested in this now because it’s a weird gay mystery where no one should care, but you threw in that info and now the plot thickens so much I’m now thinking she was murdered by colonel mustard with the candle stick. Maybe we a foot of….MURDER!

I'd say it's a scam pretending she had to take care of 500 foxes while in reality it were 20-30 foxes.
I agree she loved those animals but she wasn't qualified to take care of them.

If you look at their social media posts you'll see they were in constant need for money. The org could barely survive, the animals needed urgent medical attention and some of them were
going to die any minute now. Moar, moar, moar....
You'd be surprised how much money people are willing to donate to animal welfare orgs. Some people even put it in their will to leave all their possessions to such an org after they die.

Doing half naked photoshoots while pole dancing also helped raking in the money because simps.

People could also rent some storage on that same location. Of course all the money goes directly to the rescue:

That kid is, at most, half the appropriate age to be getting comfortable around guns. Definitely a bad sign about parental judgment. I also just hate seeing pictures of people's children on the Internet, not only for the reason we're all aware of, but also because you don't understand what it means to consent to being photographed at that age.

My opinion is that it was this one. I think she genuinely did care, but in a very ineffective way. Animal hoarders do care deeply and have the best intentions, but they're very mentally ill, so they ultimately just end up hurting the animals they care about. She obviously couldn't handle the operation she was running, or stop herself from acquiring more animals than she could reasonably care for.

I see this with parrot owners that start getting over 20+ birds to save them from actual neglect with the best intentions only to slowly fall back into neglect. Shit even a single parrot is sometimes too much to handle on your free time for a single personn.

Taking care of 50 foxes must have been extremly overwhelming, I believe she lived on site as well so constant worrying + online harrasement + raising a daughter and useless husband was a recipee for disaster with her mental issues.

I think all of this would have been avoided if she just paid staff and logged off from being on social media on her spare time, and of course the drugs allegation and the OF. Just a very sad story overall.

I have to disagree here.

First, thirst-posting is discouraged and mocked here almost as hard as cow-tipping.

Second, we may be some heckin'-tarded spergerinos around here, but we tend to have a soft spot for animals, and anyone who tries (even poorly) to help them generally stays off of our shit-list, no matter their other failures and flaws.

Having said that, if she, an attractive woman, was also BPD, she was hell-on-wheels to live with.

What I don’t get it is why? Clearly this woman was at best a very sensitive person that couldn’t handle any sort of vitriol, or she had a mental illness.

It’s literally Reddit though. I’m sure she was a compassionate gentle person(rescuing foxes)-but she couldn’t just ignore retards on the internet?

Why is it otherwise sensitive and kind people(not for performance-genuinely compassionate and open hearted) people tend to be this emotionally vulnerable?

The world needs more people like her.
