Shout-out to @Owen Grady for helping me play detective on this one.

For those not in the know, the SCP Foundation was spawned from the creepypasta fandom through many posts on /x/, detailing a mysterious organization that documented and contained anomalous items and entities. Eventually, a website database of these documents was created, and regulations were put in place to prevent Mary Sues and edgy Jeff the Killer clones.

They never used to enforce 3 unless you were getting seriously out of line on a relatively harmless blue board. And that's because it's retarded to do so. The main good part of 4chan for most of its existence was you could just go there, call people faggots, niggers, niggerfaggots, or whatever slur you could come up with, exchange cool death threats, shitpost, act like a retard in one post then talk about medieval art in the next, etc.

I'm going to disagree. There's a difference between being as abrasive as possible, constantly, using as many slurs as possible versus just being able to exchange banter. Obviously whatever indians and People of Soy 4chan has hired now can't stomach either, but too many people come to the site and treat it like a scream session. It's like they only use 4chan so they can "get it all out" and be better behaved on the "real websites."

I'm going to semi-agree. I may have exaggerated it a bit, but it wasn't so much "you should always just shitpost like a retard" but that you COULD, any time you felt like it, and it was fun. You could actually just say what you thought, and sometimes that would be completely retarded. Or you could say what you didn't think, just to see how people responded. And it was fun.

Or you could actually have substantive discussions. That's something that's been dead for years. I mean I'm glad some people still have xenophobic bunker generals where they can still do that, but it's no longer the norm.
