Something Awful, a site that lost almost all of its Internet cultural relevance before the Great Recession, is still around, at least in the sense of it still has users and you can still make an account, although I don’t see why you’d want to. Despite being a complete shell of its former self, it’s still “alive” in the sense that it’s online and people still use it. It’s been a zombie website arguably for longer than it’s been online, yet it still exists.
I have a feeling 4chan has gone down the same path. It’s become a zombie website with almost no influence over current internet culture, and it attracts very few new users because nobody wants to engage in the shit quality discussion there. But it shambles on, kept alive by the efforts of its admins and tranny jannies.
In general finding good places to talk about hobbies or interests online now is basically impossible. 4chins is dead, every single subreddit is an astroturfed political circlejerk, Discord is Discord, and Xitter/Threads/Poosky are legitimately unusable if you have an IQ over 20.
