I think this is the real legacy of 4chan. A culture develops distinction from others via isolation, and with the proliferation of normies on the internet via smartphones, it was only to be a matter of time before various distinct web cultures such as 4chan, Reddit, Tumblr, etc. would breach containment and make their way into the mainstream. All of their elements ending up in a heterogeneous mix across major platforms.

Tumblr's gender sorcery has manifest into real world legal issues. You see Tumblr cartoonist aesthetics/tropes in a ton of new shows. Reddit is now run by the Tumblr trannies who can't draw and now mainly exists for tranny validation circlejerking and discussing news in a "heckin' wholesome way". Twitter, as you said, is basically just an open-world rpg version of 4chan now. Everywhere you go, everyone is calling everyone cuck or soy. Pepe became a "hate sybol". Sharty is entirely derivative, even in its resentment of 4chan. Its basically 4chan's rebellious teenage child who insists he isn't like his dad. On top of that, there's been mass shooters whose manifestos were plastered with memes from both sites. PUA/incel terms like "mog", "foid", "[x]-pilled", "[x]-cel" are now household terms. My boomer parents who watch cable news and don't even have social media asked me about Nick Fuentes. Old friends of mine who were complete normies a few years ago are now Jew-noticers and send me related content on Instagram.

It's cast a very long shadow.

A lot of more modern 4chan were just re-posted content from 8chan, for example, the infamous "nintendo soyjak" came from 8chan /v/, then posted onto 4chan /v/ by a cross-posting user where history remembers it "originated" from. You won't see anyone crediting 8chan for anything other than maybe hosting mass shooters because it was too edgy/problematic, so in that sense 8chan carried the old 4chan spirit for a bit longer due to it's infamy. Of course, that stopped after the site shut down, I can't recall anything breaching the containment from the webring after that in more recent times. Otherwise, good post, I would also credit Encyclopedia Dramatica for documenting a lot of early internet history and making it more accessible for people in the 2000s and early 2010s, even tho nobody remembers the site today(The Farms would be a more suitable equivalent of that today, plus a replacement for /cow/).

On the flipside, /leftypol/ was never relevant even in it's heyday. Rather infamously, the board was everyone's punching bag on 8chan and afterwards, bunkerchan was a punching bag for both 4chan/8chan and later sharty raiders(to the point it easily got shut down due to all the spam it received). My favorite /leftypol/ fun fact, aside from the fact that it was run by a neurotic tranny that might or might not currently be serving in Ukraine right now, is that the site was such a low priority for the admins that when a server got knocked out and boards were given priorities as to who got restored first, /leftypol/ was deemed less important than furry and brony, which of course got the entire board to seethe when it was finally brought back. In that sense, this mirrors how the modern left just isn't "cool" or popular on any metric unless something is astroturfed to hell and back, no organic support. Even if the political issues are popular, the absolute cringe and soy induced behavior of the modern left will kill any goodwill towards them.
BTW, at least in my experience, the leftypol users trying to "manipulate" /pol/ posters on 4chan absolutely out themselves and get triggered over very minor stuff, including casual racism and transphobia. One can usually tell they're talking to them by the self-important way they post or how they take their arguments very seriously and post walls of text over very minor responses, very easy to spot as outsiders(not to mention their memes suck dick, as would anyone who ever browsed /leftypol/ or bunkerchan would know).

Good point, I didn't really hang around 8chan much by that time but it was essentially an extension of that same wave once Gamergate made impact and it should've mentioned. Has Uncyclopedia evolved any or has it remained a more retarded ED?

I do think they're better now than five years ago. You'll at least get slurs out of them, even if that's the most low effort way to try and signal you're not some homo from offsite. It does ring a bit hollow when they're calling someone a jeet in response to anti-immigrant sentiment or a racial joke. They end up adapting, but it's so slow that they're always noticeable. It's like that YWNBAW copypasta. There's something off about bone structure of their posts. I can smell the pheromones and they're screaming faggot shill.

I feel like being called a jeet or tranny on 4chan has replaced being called a faggot. Except the insult is alot worse. I can't imagine being compared to the world's most disgusting people group or people so far dissasociated with reality they want to be the opposite gender.
 
4chan has always been my break from Kiwifarms, I love it. It's so unhinged, the drama is always the best. I remember seeing a thread blow up of some guy calling his black cashier a nigger cause she gave him extra change. It was a big argument between OP and people going "Why are you mad at her for giving you free money".

Some crazy dead boards though.

I would agree with you, except the quality of the unhinged users is terrible too. No more neckbeards that piss in bottles and need help to sneak their 50 liter piss collection past mom. Instead it's just ragebait.

There are dead boards like /cgl/ still getting threads bumped from almost 4 years ago. At that point just combine it into /jp/. The problem with modern 4chan is that the admins and the site as a whole, don't want to admit it's tiny site in today's world. It's heyday was over a decade ago now. It's not the cultural powerhouse it once was.

When I was lurking in the IRC I saw a guy complain to the jannies that his entire posting history got deleted from /cgl/ when he got a ban and he lost years of photos of the assorted cons he had visited. This dumb nigger was using /cgl/ as if it was a photography archive.
