/ck/ is dogshit just like most boards on the site. It might be fun if you actually cook, for shitposting purposes, but as with most things 4chan you're just a few different shades of redditposting at this point. /lit/ is similar in that regard, good for shitposting and if you actually read but if you're still posting there it's because you've been on that board for years, as it's trash just like every other board. /fit/ is another one, it's just r9k lite now and wojak central to boot.
I'm struggling to think of any boards that do have good discussions on regular bases and aren't dead but i'm drawing a blank. I guess it would be more appropriate to say that there are a handful of threads that are worthwhile at any point in time scattered around the entire site, and it's a hassle trying to actually find them.

The tea general is pretty good isn't it?
Yeah, it's one of the last places to host the fun, intense snobbery that you sometimes find on the site. They know a huge amount about tea, or at least they claim to. I've gotten buying advice from them a few times.

What would it look like if it were good? How do you feel it would differ?

Same blanket points can be applied to every single board on the site:
*Better moderation
*Less cancerous userbase
*Do not use shitty meme templates like wojaks or pepes as substitute for board culture(this is a site wide problem on smaller boards as well as bigger ones)
*Reddit, discord and social media cattle get bullied out
*Remove gooners(you find them in the most surprising places now)
*Curb schizos/bots
None of this is going to happen, and so the site will just continue degrading. I can understand the appeal of more niche boards, especially if you've been going there for a while, but let's not kid ourselves here in thinking that any of them are actually good. Ironically enough, I think these small niche subboards on this site might be better substitutes in some cases, traffic for the video game subboard might not be comparable to /v/ for example but boy is the content per post better(in most cases, anyways). With some of the deader boards, the threads here might actually be more active in some cases anyways, not just better.
If you're looking for something VERY specific then these boards might have what you're looking for, but I found looking for general discussions anywhere on 4chan is just a waste of time nowadays.

How many boards do you check regularly?
*Better moderation
I've got no complaints with /ck/s moderation, and I post there more often than here.
*Less cancerous userbase
Generally haven't noticed that on /ck/
*Do not use shitty meme templates like wojaks or pepes as substitute for board culture(this is a site wide problem on smaller boards as well as bigger ones)
Pepeposting in the OP is generally a bannable offence on /ck/. It happens sometimes in the replies but it's more often Apus. I really like Apu though so I may not notice it.
*Reddit, discord and social media cattle get bullied out
No sign of them that I've observed on /ck/
*Remove gooners(you find them in the most surprising places now)
There is at least one highly dedicated scatfag on /ck/. I think the mod finds it funny. I wish he'd get banned more thoroughly, though idk what goes on behind the scenes. I bitchpost about him every couple of months.
*Curb schizos/bots
I've only noticed bots on the bigger boards. Schizos have probably ruined a few smaller boards. On big boards they get drowned out. I've noticed none of either on /ck/.

I like /ck/ for being /ck/. So many times you end up looking for a recipe and it's some cunts diary about her kids and husbands holiday in Spain. 3,000 words of filler to find the ingredients list. It's annoying to deal with so going to /ck/ and seeing "Is my hamburger over done?" and a pile of ash is a refreshing chuckle. Imageboards are poor formats for cooking but great for jokes and web, threads.

Have you missed the last 5 pages where we discuss how pedophiles have taken over imageboards? Might be something you should read before you defend pedophile dog whistling.
Don’t get autistic about it. Someone posting an anime character in a non-sexual manner does not make them a pedophile.
people who want to post lolicon
Lolicon is pornography. The image posted was not pornographic or even sexual in nature.
Touhou has 106444 pictures on rule 34 phreal.
If you’re saying that this makes it so anyone who posts pictures of Touhou characters is a pedophile then the same could be said for anyone who has posted a picture of like Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic is a mainstream character with decades of western exposure. I would assume they're a Sonic fan and like the video games or movies. I assume Touhou fans like little girls.

/ck/ is still pretty fun. I really liked it during early covid and shortly before, it developed a complicated web of shitposts and this sort of tonal dialect midway between "confused old woman" and "teen shitposter". The mods are extremely prompt to delete anything too political or too incendiary, and for issues like veganism and seed oils that they can't delete they just leave a few threads up all the time and delete any spam that's trying to get around them.

It's not "good" if what you're interested in is effortposts and serious discussion, but I don't go to 4chan for that. I go there to read posts from people that don't have an agenda or an identity, and /ck/ is pretty much still that, despite how much everyone likes to wring their hands and worry about bots and shills.
Yeah, it's one of the few boards I can look at and not feel like "I wish I was on this board but from x years ago". Always the first I recommend to anyone looking for another board to browse.
*Curb schizos/bots
Alright, enlighten me. Who are the schizos on /ck/?

The tea thread is pretty good and autistic. I also sometimes like the ethnic food wars. Even the shitpost threads about fast food places can be funny if they aren't just obvious shilling, which has become more common. I hate to say it because generals used to be the cancer, but general threads with some semblance of thread culture to them are higher signal than most random threads.

/ck/ is one of the places generals belong. There does need to be a tea thread or a non-alcoholic drinks thread to answer all the small questions about drink brewing that don't need their own thread. It's not like the constant cycle of eternal threads where nothing new is discussed or the topic kept any more.

I don't care how it's spelled.

Modern imageboard culture is always trying to make an other' Any one who says anything out of line or doesn't like some meme being spammed is told they're a tourist, they need to lurk moar or whatever else you want to throw at them. It's worse than Reddit is with it's constant need to find ways to discredit opposing opinions and attempt to put an identity on anonymous posters. If 30+ was self aware instead of a sharty shit poster he might recognise his beaviour is what has killed so much of the webring and any post-8chan image boards. ZZZ was doing pretty well and building up steam until it got paranoid about tvch and started to do the tourist song and dance any time an unpopular opinion was posted. Moderation later joined in and started to ban wrong think until ZZZ was left with a very insular and retarded set of Anons.

It doesn't matter if you call me a tourist. It doesn't matter if 4chan has become something so different that original anons are now considered foreigners. I've already said in the thread 4chan and all imageboard culture is dead and can no longer exist in the current year. If you think there is anything worth defending with this gay shit then be my guest and post away. But I still remember when "Fuck off /b/tard" was the stock response to posting memes on boards that got shit done. And /b/, /pol/ and /r9k/ have leaked containment so hard you people think the absolute worst of imageboard culture is normal and deserve the state all of them are in.

When you run around going "you're not one of us!", the only answer any one has is "Thank God for that."
I think the term tourist is probably overused for 4chan, if you get the right person they'll probably accuse anyone that first started using 4cuck around 2016 or who supports Trump is an election tourist.

But some of the older users aren't wrong, that users rightly need to lurk moar, the site is 18+ and users that are blatently are underage should be called out as such.

Not that i'm an oldfag defender in any way. Plenty of them seem to hate fun, and that users who joined the site after 2007 are funnier or are more relevant than them.

Why? Why would any one need to lurk on current 4chan? Lurk moar used to mean you should pay attention to board culture and try to fit into it. Keep the quality high and don't act like you just found /b/ and wanted to copy it on the other boards. What culture is left there any more? How many soyjaks and pepes must you save before you can post like a bot and post stealth porn threads?

Some more "culture" for you: the /r9k/ interracial BBC cuckold spammers have moved to /v/. I've caught this guy posting stealthily edited images of Zelda underneath any thread that mentions her twice now, and a kind stranger has informed me this is a known /trash/oid:

You can't gatekeep anonymous imageboards. It's always a battle of the most autistic forcing their posts on everyone else. You can't stop them posting.

/trash/fags are so consistently deranged, yet there's so many flavors of them, each with their own lore and dynamics with each other. It's actually pretty fascinating from a lolcow perspective, but that's when you're peeking through their retarded degeneracy at your own pace... when they've started invading threads on other boards that you actually use, it gets pretty obnoxious pretty fast. They're rarely even proper trolls that do it for lulz/seethe, more like hyperactive schizos on a crusade against some weird issue they made up in their head, and they're all 100% convinced they're "fighting the good fight" and saving the site from what is almost invariably some incredibly specific made-up schizo in their head.

It's like the difference between laughing at some prankster going on a tongue-in-cheek rant about "YOU EVIL PSYCHOPATHIC BLOODMOUTH CARNISTS!!!!" at the grocery deli to screw with people vs. having to actually deal with someone yelling about it unironically at your workplace. Knowing the intent behind it really makes it get tiring 10x as fast...

It was also revealed they were all in a discord group coordinating shitting up the main thread

What is it with these discord faggots and doing this? It's not even raids like in the past. It's just a group of faggots camping threads and spamming them with shit.

I honestly don't understand what is wrong with discord faggots.

Side note is funny watching shiver have a meltdown for being exposed as a newbie tourist when in the "What is wrong with gen z" thread he tries to pull this "you changed old man. It's still the same culture its always been pops" nonsense when people are asking what the fuck is wrong with gen z and their discord pedo and porn overconsumption problem.

Because they are extremely online losers who spend 18 hours a day talking on discord, jerking off, and taking their miserable existence out on everyone else?

That part is funny. Him seeing a videogame girl and immediately thinking of children being sexually abused is quite unsettling.
