Miffed that I can't hang out on my favorite boards (which were largely irrelevant to on-going culture war nonsense) but not displeased to see the loathsome jannies and execrable moderators taken down several pegs. An extended vacation from 4chan isn't such a bad thing, if it means a long overdo humbling of the janitorial class. I doubt the site will be gone for good, but this was a pretty serious mauling so it could take weeks to restore it. I'm not naive enough to hope for better moderation going forward. The trend with 4chan is the same as the general internet, i.e. gradual enshittification.

pretty sure this wasn't a thing for too long of a period. At least, I don't think it lasted through 2007(and I'm not sure how long it was really "known" prior to 4chan beginning to check for embedded archives). Also /b/ had a filesize limit of like, 2mb so there really wasn't a whole lot you could stuff in there, anyway. Also I vaguely remember this being more of a thing on 7chan for whatever reason; probably because of filesize reasons.
I also still even have an image with the batch script to do it embedded into it via this method.

That said there are more modern methods of stenography that you can embed text into images with just by encoding it with a special sort of noise. I think you can also technically embed another image into it but doing so kind of makes the encoded image pretty fucked and, predictably, bloats filesize.
