I'm not gonna claim to be an authority on GG history or anything but I was keeping an active eye on it all throughout and I don't recall Lordkat ever being any kind of prominent in it. Much less a "posterboy", like Jim, Sargon, Boulderbitch, Ralph, RogueStar, Milo, etc. Even Jontron was more involved for like 5 minutes.

Though personally I thought the idea of GaymerGape itself was completely queer from the start even if Zoe Quinn/Anita/Wu and whoever the fuck else were slimy skanks. So I didn't really pay much attention to the youtube or twitter side of it early on. I was more of an ED/Æ reader than anything else from roughly '06-wheneverthefuck the site became completely dysfunctional. 4cuck was way more fun early on too. Probably objectively shitty and immature, yes, but definitely a lot more functional and less oppressive than it became after Gookmoot took over.

From my research Metokur started the movement with the Quinnspiracy theory video, Sargon joined in with tagging TB and AngryJoe into it. Then came the IRC channel with Jihadi Jarbo and Shoeonhead who also made videos after. From there it spiraled into the rest of the internet, 4chan first and everything later. All the Breitbart Milo stuff came later. Lordkat was the guy who ran the twitch stream reporting on the IGF fiasco. Also called out TGWTG people for telling Jewwario fans they werent fans if they supported GG. Dan Olson particularly got pissed about it in his own GG video.

I don't think modern imageboards can survive with all the botting, feds, no life autists shitting the boards and discorders raiding the place.
Most of them are already unusable and have been spiraling downwards for over ten years. Nothing that is not moderated and account based can truly survive in that environment and most of those places are so horribly moderated that unless you are part of the bandwagon posting is impossible.

What are you talking about? 4chan has been dead for over a decade now. What you see here is a shambling corpse, not even a shadow of itself but a hollow being that badly tries to imitate it's former shadow.
Once 4chan died of cancer, 8chan was usable for a while, but with it's death that spelled the end for other imageboards as well. Webring tried and failed to bring that same magic, but all of these literally who sites are either dead or on life support now, including the 8chan skinwalker site ran by an open cuck and a pedo.

If you mean "when will 4chan die", I don't think the feds will allow that to happen. It is far too convenient as a honeypot to capture any potential problematic users and trap them into inaction by forcing them to argue with bots or retards instead of doing something productive or reading up on something they do not approve of. Even if they start posting something that makes them worry, they have an army of tranny jannies to shut it down the instant things start getting out of control. 4chan already has a reputation, and you can even say the dreaded N word there(then get banned when a tranny sees it outside of /pol/), it's a perfect magnet for young and edgy easily impressionable kids or people who are getting a bit too redpilled for their own good and think they might find other free spirits there. They can be groomed into a schizo and/or a tranny by the current culture(or what passes for one, anyways) or at the very least kept on a leash, not like they have an alternative anyways. Anyone who knows what's up doesn't use the site anymore for any serious amount of time, and even at it's peak it was a waste of time anyways.
Only ones who aren't being fucked with are very niche discussion boards/threads, but they're dying off too, discord and social media is seeing to that. That leaves schizos, shitflingers, porn addicted trannies and easily impressionable little kids screeching into the void and swimming in an ocean of piss...forever, 4chan isn't going anywhere, but most of us left 4chan while the going was good.

I only heard about GG about a year after it happened. I shit myself at first, worrying some dirty Indian was spending my hard-earned cash. Then I learned it was not the GamerGate storefront, but some sort of homosexual ritual.

It was funny seeing people realise that gaming outlets might not be on the level. Something 8-year-old me figured out with the magazines with adverts for games next to the nice reviews of those same games.
