Why do people idolize moot so much?
Everything I've read about him depicts him as a gigantic cockgargling faggot. Even leading up to him leaving; he was talking about being really inspired by Anita Sarkeesian and shit.
moot made some stupid decision and had a few retarded ideas. I think the most bizarre one was him claiming (in his final Q&A stream) that the improved web interface for phones is, somehow, going to increase 4chan's posting quality.

The reason why a bunch people like him is because he actually interacted with the users and cared about the website. He went to the Otakon conventions multiple times to talk to people about 4chin, he posted in a few threads here and there (although that would typically derail them), and made contests for site banners every couple of years. (Although this behavior became more and more infrequent towards the end.)

He was the face of 4chan, not only because he was the owner, but also because he actually showed it.

hiro completely fucked off and just treats the place as a passive income source while the faceless cabal of mods run the show in the shadows and treat boards as their personal fiefdoms. IIRC the last thing hiro did was the embarrassing 4chan vtuber contest back in 2018 that ultimately went nowhere. /vst/ still hasn't got one of those "board banners" even though there were multiple attempts because neither hiro nor the mods give a damn.

Gamergate was the saddest of all failures.
was it tho? only a retard would think kotaku and all the other shitrags will go bankrupt over night. same as "vote with your wallet REEE why is EA no imploded yet".
the only thing anyone can do is react to it in their own way, which inevitably means some will be retarded, just in a different way.

but look at the industry now. can you really say it "won"?

Is the entire industry worse or better since gamergate? We’re picking pronouns for our body type A or body type B characters whilst negroid Russians send us on missions to planets with every shopkeeper tells you about his husband.

it was an abject failure that made things worse with the gamification of twitter incels acting like the worse spergs that they could be.

anyone who tells you otherwise is a virgin or trying to sell you something.

It was always going to be a failure because the only people supporting it were dorky autists with no clout unlike Anita or Zoe who had actual social power. The only thing Gamergate succeeded at was turning the awkward edginess of the old internet into the seething hatred of the modern internet.

People still aren't buying these games though. The big sellers are things like Hogwart's Legacy and these people seethe about Gamergate constantly while being unable to put a dent in their profitability. The walking simulators they were pushing still flop.

So the jannies on /v/ allowed a Ukraine-war shitflinging thread filled with hundreds of images and videos of dead Ukrainian/Russian soldiers to hit bump limit while banning people complaining about it outside of the thread.
The jannies lately have been allowing porn, gore, political, and blatantly off-topic threads on /v/ to hit bump limit regularly.

Sounds like a normal day on /v/ tbh.

It was the first time the American "news" really went full mask-off and was just openly orchestrating weaponized fake news complete with giving "journalists" their marching orders and exact phrases to use.
I don't know about that, I mean we are just talking about electronic toys. I would say that tptb would have better things to spend their time on than fixing scores of barely known videogames....however it was probably one of those moments, where many things, issues, e-celebs coincided/collided at the same time* in geek culture and that presented itself as an opportunity for tptb.....
The only thing Gamergate succeeded at was turning the awkward edginess of the old internet into the seething hatred of the modern internet.
....because out of that shitshow (old school) nerds/geeks were relabelled as potential shooters/chuds/alt-righters/dangerous incels etc basically perma-bad guys for whatever the circumstances required, maybe as way to avoid another Occupy Wallstreet and colour certain opinions held by the "perma-bad guys" as definitively "bad". Hell, there's like an element of sin eating, cos IIRC (and correct me if I'm wrong) in some of those slightly later "gamers are dead" articles and tangentially related news articles there was the passing off of "frat boy" crimes and attitudes as nerd crimes and attitudes.

What’s even worse is all those anime avatars that acted like utter spastics are all troons on /v/ now.
Troonery was one of those other moments that tptb capitalised on to rein in and control nerds.

*maybe some of you might have clearer memories of the sea change in gaming during the years of 2010-2014, cos one of the big things in gaming was the constant need to legitimise it as art and I can't really remember the other stuff that was going on in those years.

Moot actually cared about 4chan and was a chantard himself. Hiro is not part of the culture at all. He doesn't get it. Moot did. Moot had has life ruined for years just like Null for hosting the site because he cared about it. He made virtually no profit from the site but still ran it out of passion. The stuff about him secretly loving Antia or fucking Zoe Quinn is weird conspiracy shit some of the more angry gamergate people made up when he left. People were extremely angry with him. I don't blame Moot for leaving at all. The backlash from him censoring GG was way overblown imo.

He started dating some leftist chick and started kowtowing to leftist ideology to get laid, it's perfectly understandable what he did but it's not like he's completely innocent.

People act like Moot hadn't lost track of his own website by 2014 when he failed to keep up with memes and trends anons were involved in and kept saying stupid shit like "webms don't have sound to stop jumpscares" or using 2007/8 memes in the middle of 2013. Him bailing was inevitable, it's just that it happened when his public image had turned from "all overseeing faggot" to "luggage lad".

Yeah but it doesn't erase what he did before then. Ben Garrison more or less correctly called him out for that cuckoldry. He more or less always hated /pol/ (sort of like how nool hates A&N despite agreeing with at least a fair amount of what they say), but he didn't really get into the serious cuckoldry until he was already on the way out.

He definitely went through a lot of shit for a site that didn't make him much money, as a labor of love, and if he finally cashed out and made retirement money at an early age, fine with me. That doesn't make that part of it actually admirable, though.

See you space cowboy.

He might actually be the person that forced the mods to implement this, the vidya butts poster only posts like 3 threads an hour while the peri spammer wipes entire pages.
I think /a/ might have been the cause. They've been dealing with schizos spamming threads pretty hard and wiping out full pages in the catalog for the last month. Just last week people started spam posting gore, cp, porn, frogs and wojak threads all at the same time for almost two hours before a janny showed up. I think the main issue is that they need better fucking moderation since the retards they have now don't even fucking show up most of the time.
