A lot of the supposed bot activity on 4chan that gets brought up relentlessly can just be explained by the hordes of dumb retards who inhabit 4chan (and much of the modern internet) now. There's no other way to rationalize the sheer mass of twitter and reddit screencap threads or the prevalence of coombait and ragebait content that successfully agitates people by appealing to their animalistic emotions on larger boards.

That Canadian skitzo catholic poster Jonathan Black and his type are an argument against that though. That guy was at it 18 hours a day for the better part of a decade. His typical spam could easily be spotted on /pol/ /x/ and hopping in from time to time elsewhere. I'm 99% sure I've spotted him posting over on /tg/ in the threads about real life religious stuff. He's not hard to bait out if you think it's him. Although he doesn't tend to deploy the spam bots out on the blue boards.
I'm not sure if he managed to piss off mods finally but it seems they've finally filtered a majority of his BS out. He's generally not shitting up wherever he's at day in day out anymore.
So either the guy found a new job or he got a bit spooked due to his doxing hitting way too close to home.
I know there were a handful of anons gathering loads of crap and sending it off in mass to all of the Catholic orgs around there (they have an extensive contact network) as well as local police, the Canadian feds + his employers.
I'm honestly surprised the guy doesn't have his own thread here.
The huge influx of idiots are part of the problem as well. Eternal Summer is still in effect and doesn't look like it'll ever go away short of EMP drops and the planet resetting. Plus you have more boomers using them new fangled smart phones shitting things everywhere they go.

Could an extension to try and detect slide threads or botted posts work? Seems trivial to lookup posts against the archives, on the other hand you might run into rate limit issues on the 'chives depending on how many calls you end up making.

But i feel like a quarter of /pol/ posts on any given time are slide threads/bot/shill posts.
