/vp/ really needs to just die already. It's not just that the few remaining OC-producing threads have had a sharp decline in quality over the past year or two, but the gaps in the catalog left in between them by a lack of good posters and content has been filled by some of the worst sludge on the site.
Currently ongoing is some sort of slapfight turfwar between about half a dozen avatarfag attention whores and their orbiters, constantly invading and derailing threads they think they've spotted each other in, making threads about themselves or dedicated to hating their rival avatarfags, and blatantly samefagging as their own supporters or falseflagging as whichever other avatarfag pissed them off that day. I don't know the lore or backstory behind this circle, and even as a community watch enthusiast myself, you couldn't pay me to dig more into it, some things are just too retarded to be entertaining. The most retarded part is that they're all convinced that the other avatarfags are secretly jannies or something, and you'll see their underage newfag orbiters repeating this made-up nonsense whenever they pop up. Nevermind the fact that /vp/ doesn't even have janitors, and one look at the catalog can tell you that the mods check it maybe once a day at absolute most...
It usually goes something like this:

"I knew it! [other avifag] is a janny that's trying to take me down, see how mine got deleted and theirs didn't?"
>the opposing avatarfag's post is deleted instead
"Wow, look how long it was left up before getting deleted, totally because they're a janny! It was deleted after someone else called them out, so clearly it's just to save face and not look like they're a janny!"
They all do this to each other, and clearly none of them know even the basics of how the site works. There's a glaceonfag, an ivysaurfag, a braixenfag, and a delcattyfag, maybe more but those are what I remember off of the top of my head. There are 5+ threads up about this shit at any given time, and it's been going on for a few months (though it's heated up more recently).
I think any poster involved in any side of this retarded flamewar, avatar or not, should be permabanned for violating GR2. It's a shame to see how far this board has fallen.

My personal experience using 8ch is that it had all of the drawbacks of a "legacy forum" with identities, coupled with the drawbacks of an anonymous image board.
Every board was hawkishly hyper-moderated by at least one obsessed retard, on a level far above anything 4chan. I guess the reason is because 8ch had a much higher ratio of jannies to users than 4chan. Also, the staff on 8ch were really desperate to be micro-celebrities and would sometimes even use their IRL names, resulting in every thread being flooded with shit like "Mark you are a nigger!!! kill yourself!!"
Some very small 4chan boards like /tg/ are like this (dominated by one mod who uses it as his personal playground,) for the same reason: there's not enough users to collectively force their freedom.
Alt-chans can occasionally be good but it's always a question of moderation. Less is more. If you can clean up CP spam without forcing the board into the mold of your autistic coder-brain you're golden. No one is ever capable of this though

In theory, altchans like 8ch are superior to 4chan, but in reality it's different story and you're absolutely right. At it's heights, 8ch did live up to the old days of 4ch or even surpassed them, so I guess a lot of people are wearing rose tinted shades. Better than remembering how shit the site was towards the very end, or how the webring community fell apart even without the pig farmer or the bone goblin afterwards.

Went onto /n/ for the first time in a while since being stuck in front of a train yesterday put me in the mood for some train autism, and holy COW, the 'log is overrun with bikers! The big train general was created in March! And of course, there's a woe-jack in the 'log (not even a proper soyjak). Just give the bikers a single containment thread so their spam doesn't consume the whole board, or create a splinter board called /bike/. What faggots.

The old user base of /n/ doesn't exist anymore, people got old and moved on (or literally died like Ithaqua) and new blood stopped dripping in, except for bikefags. "You're here forever" is a dumb meme and /n/ is perfect proof for that.
1chan with its rail board died very recently too. Big F, it was only a couple of months younger than 4chan.

My first time in this thread: /a/ console warring and shitposting is really getting bad. Constant cuckposting and off-topic posts and the jannies not doing a single thing are common enough on the generals of /dbs/ or /csm/ (that isn't actually allowed, but they never get deleted). But now you're starting to see it spread to new threads and jannies are still not doing anything about it. I actually got warned for reporting off topic shitposting. So claude has just completely killed the site for me, Sonnet3.5 seems to be able to answer any question no matter how absurd, so if I have some obscure Linux question I no longer get that itch to go to /g/ and then have to wait half a day for some sped to give me an incorrect answer, I can just get one instantly without subjecting myself to a bunch of tech trannies.
