Poor janny trannies, they're probably around the rope as we speak :(

My fellow pepes and feels wojaks, wouldn't it be very based and redpilled to finally get a rare Pepe Kekistani patriot as new admin? All the shadilay meme magic would make the troons seethe! Praise Kek!

Go back to bed Todd Howard, I already have Skyrim twice

I dunno, the countless years of people saying nigger, faggot, tranny, troon, cuck, posting gore videos, countless loli threads on his website just running free might have gave me the impression that it was free speech.
Not in every board you obtuse motherfucker, there are still topic rules and blue boards, as inconsistently as the rules for off topic are applied.
The problem with 4chan's moderation is that it is simultaneously extremely opaque and inconsistent, a single faggot janny with a personal vendetta can make an entire topic impossible to discuss and there is no mechanism to get him removed for it, zero transparency from mods or hiro.
Either commit to it and remove rules like global against racism that are ignored 99% of the time and only used to for jannies to ding a post they don't like, or actually enforce rules like no eceleb garbage on /v/.

Dude, tell me about it. I remember going to /b/ for the first time thinking it would be the epic hacker hangout of legend and it was just porn. And then you go to any other board and despite having "no porn" rules it's just more lolishit porn.

They even have porn-specific containment boards but that's not enough for these freaks.
I've lurked on and off but never stuck since I've never been interested in lolcows. I'll take the tourist tag but I want it to be known that this is a breath of fresh air considering I just want to talk about technology, video games, and music among other hobbies. That and I've always missed forums and socializing a la chat rooms and hangouts.

I've also taken my fair share of 3 days for bitching about pedos and telling them to fuck off to their containment boards and sites. Anyway, total janny death and sorry for the blogpost. Still catching up on the thread while reading others.

The only moderation 4chan needed was purging cp and region banning IP addresses that ever took part in /soc/. The latter would also rid you of kpop/jpop spam, Blacked threads, the type.
Any website is going to need some level of moderation by necessity. Illegal content, incitement, disruptive spam, dox, etc. The basic stuff to keep the site functional. The problem is the people most attracted to being literal internet janitors are the ones who get off on the "power" they feel it gives them. So you end up with all kinds of stupid fucking "unwritten" rules and restrictions.

You end up with a site that has more overmoderation than fucking Twitter. On Twitter you can put a "NSFW" tag on a post and have it automatically hidden. You have less freedom than fucking Twitter.

It was so much fun at its peak, but it was ultimately doomed to failure. 4chan is overmoderated to hell and back, but 8chan had the opposite problem. Combined with its dismally small userbase it mean the very worst users were able to overwhelm boards and discussions and make the site totally unusable. /pol/ was basically DOA because everything you posted got drowned out by a hundred shouts of "KIKE! SHILL! SKILL! KIKE!" if you were anyone but a Third Reich larper.

It also became a fedposting honeypot, and the glowies let it get so out of control that multiple mass shooters posted their shit there. I'm sure they thought they were monitoring and controlling it but once it started happening in countries they had no justification I'm sure it became clear it couldn't last. I can't remember if it was Charlottesville or a mass shooting that killed it, but once it came down after that, there was no going back, and a lot of people didn't even want to.

When it did finally return, the QAnon grift was the final nail in the coffin.

I miss /cow/, but I fucking hated how it turned in "Ethan Ralph and Ethan Ralph accessories." And my cringy janny phase is a shameful part of my history. 😬
Ah man, 8chan. The troubles with 8 Next really started a bloodletting of users imo, hard to retain posters when the site would become unusable for days while they tried to migrate shit, or if posting was a crapshoot, or null got salty and migrated everyone on /v/ to the half finished site for a day. The user counts went down massively, and never really recovered from it. Really, christ church was a mercy kill, if you want to see what it would've ended up as just look at Acidfag and Mark's 8chan.

As for /cow/, how did that even happen? I know lolcows are kind of dead these days, and the userbase was mostly gone by the time it got to 8chan, but Ralph isn't interesting or funny enough to carry a board. Hell, even the one here on kiwi always had to be shared with the general community.

The really gay part was discarding your post if it had too many instances of the word "nigger" or "tranny" in it.
For me, it was when your ban history started factoring into ban length. They only started doing that just recently and all it really amounts to is lashing out at soft targets (users with static IPs) whlie the users who give them the real headaches constantly evade.
