I would say it's pretty much solely the fault of the shitty moderation that the site is the way it is. The mods not only don't do their jobs, but they actively support trolls to the detriment of everybody else. And they all have their own pet users who they let do whatever they want 24/7 and it makes everything suck ass. Almost every single board was like that. The ones that weren't only got away from it because the entire rest of the board would shit all over the trolls. That was very rare. With actual good moderation, I think every other bad aspect of current 4chan would be overlooked, including the bullshit captcha and wait times to post. But when you have to wait to post AND you know you are at the whim of an idiot mod and a bunch of autistic trolls with nothing to do but shit on anything relevant, it really makes you think "ya know, nah, not this time, I'm done."

I am sure 4chan will come back from this, but it will be much worse than it is now because the few good people left will finally have gone to find somewhere better. And that's saying something considering they've been bleeding "good" users since like 2005.

My thinking too. This isn't the case of a blown cylinder. The entire engine block has caught fire and melted out of the frame. To get the site back up, it sounds like they will have to do a complete rebuild. But how do you just update something that hasn't been updated in 15 years?

Being an artist on /b/ was a specific brand of suffering - I hate that I look back at some spammers with nostalgia from how much worse it got towards the end there
Lucario Spammer and Marko Neko guy were not that bad by comparison to loli spammer and the literal shit piss guy

Watching 4chan collapse in real time was truly a euphoric experience. I have a feeling that once they manage to bring back the site, it will be unusable for days, as the amount of shitposting would skyrocket while the jannies' morale is at an all time low.
